There's a weird man at this conference.

He sounds like a children’s TV presenter after they’ve been hyped up on the drugs that will eventually get them fired in a cloud of shame.

The kid he’s talking to only enhances the effect (when did the new graduates start looking like kids?) - she looks a bit terrified, truth be told. Like she wants to flee the scene of such enormous earnestness before it consumes her.

Ed finds himself drawn to the whole thing like a moth to a flame.

The man turns to him. He’s around Ed’s age, and fizzing with energy. He’s got a smile that could probably power a small village with its wattage. Stede, his name badge proclaims him as. Weird name for a weird guy.
