The BPitch family are pleased to announce the arrival of a new member of our team, as Berlin-based producer Amotik join us with his Daya EP. Amotik has been self-releasing his music for the past couple of years, dropping several EPs and his debut album. His minimalist, hypnotic take on techno is mesmerising and it caught the ear of BPitch boss Ellen Allien some time ago. It didn’t take long for a strong connection to be made between Amotik and the label, resulting in his first appearance with us. Daya contains four powerful cuts, with undulating low frequencies and nuanced composition designed to target mind, body and spirit…

‘Baya’ submerges us in its dense low end straight off the bat. A solemn motif repeats over and over as Amotik gently raises the energy and tension, amplified by eerie, highly affecting organ keys. Title track ‘Daya’ utilises a muffled spoken word sample with haunting production to captivate the listener as the almighty thud of the kick drum rains down heavy.

Next up is ‘Aage’ which feels a lot more ‘busy’ than the first two cuts. A trance-inducing riff cascades around the mids, while the beats and bass pepper your body with a hail of jabs. Wait for the sucker punch after the breakdown, intense. Lastly, we have ‘Peeche’, a track that blends potent percussive elements with a serene top end. You’ll be locked in a groove, experiencing physical catharsis and spiritual transcendence.

Six years on since his latest appearance on the label’s main series, Stroboscopic Artefacts boss Luca Mortellaro, aka Lucy, returns with ‘Dyscamupia’ – an introspective, multisensory techno triptych revolving around the core sequence of Albert Camus’ classic existentialist novel, ‘The Stranger’. Also known as the ‘killing of an arab’, this pivotal moment in Camus’ seminal book – which also inspired The Cure their song ‘Killing An Arab’ back in the day, is here evoked through three variedly intense, deep and hypnotic techno variations – flexing from 120 to 130, onto 140 BPM – each of them translating a particular step in the author’s minute, focal-shifting depiction of the unknown man’s murder on the beach.   

Embodying Meursault for a minute, Jason Snell lends his voice to the narrator and his inner demons, casting a strange, ominous spell on the club and its crowd. Willing to explore and dig up further into the textural wealth and crucial warmth of organic sounds and synthetic treatments, Lucy made wise use of the binaural microphones technology during the vocals recording process, greatly enhancing the immersive force of his compositions to create thoughtful, dystopic narrative bubbles that stand in their own right.

The first number, ‘ Dyscamupia (Forward)’, happens before and right until the actual killing – hence time flowing at a metronomic, heartbeat-like tempo; the second cut ‘Dyscamupia (Pause)’ takes place right after the nameless man’s death, when the narrator enters a kind of existential ‘pause’ and a whole new flow of consciousness begins; the third sequence, ‘Dyscamupia (Backward)’, plumbs the depths of the action itself as played backwards, like an equally hazed-out and dizzying reminiscence of the sad encounter’s mechanism. Don’t let its seemingly conceptual framework fool you though, like most of his past output ‘Dyscamupia’ also aims to bring dancefloors to a steady simmer, whilst maintaining Lucy’s ascending momentum towards an all-round genre-busting, thought-provoking apex.

Throughout his career, Roger Semsroth has followed a deep intuition for experimentation in sound, wrapping club music around eerie microtonal motifs and industrial sensibilities. This new work for Tresor takes a step forward, as the first true techno album from Sleeparchive, where his previous LPs have exhibited themselves more conceptually, or under different names and his Nord Vest label.

Semsroth has been active in electronic music since the late 90s. He received initial attention first for his electro productions under the alias Skanfrom and the 80s minimal synth inspired Television Set. These projects echoed his love for these sounds, which the East Berliner had steadily immersed himself with after the end of the GDR. Upon hearing the bleeps of Mika Vainio and Plastikman, he began to engage with his strain of techno. Over the last decade, he has focused on his Sleeparchive alias, which dates back to 2004. Alongside close friend DJ Pete, he performs live techno as TR-101. His relationship with Tresor began in 2011, first releasing the Ronan Point EP and following up with the crucial A Man Dies In The Street series in 2013.

With this new album, Sleeparchive's impact on the techno sound is ever more relevant. Awaking in constant locomotion, locked-in, unrelenting and dry. Sleeparchive’s churning loops etch visions of tight minimalism at times densely frenetic and others serenely galactic. This predilection continues throughout the four sides on the album, eschewing conventional arrangement styles with gradual probabilistic change. Tracks such as 'Needle' and 'Peccant' offer up precise, sinewy techno. 'Leave' recalls the Detroit sound of Terrence Dixon, with its cascading synth tones and droning atmospheres. The album closes with a different version of 'Trust' to that found on last year’s Revised Recordings EP released on Tresor, with its now-familiar nerve-inducing pizzicato strings even more at the fore with its mechanic delivery.

"Unknown Perceptions" is the release debut of the newborn Barcelona based label, founded by @bahnbarcelona Collective.

This V/A compilation has a strong presence of artists based in Barcelona, and how could it be otherwise: ASH, Cyklos, Korben Nice, Røtter and STNDRD who, each with their own electronic voice and personal manufacturing. define techno with forcefulness in its maximum contemporary expression.

The nationalities that make up the LP are multiple, thus preserving the plurality of the global techno scene and its varied extensions. BAHN · has always been committed to talents emerging, regardless of their origin: Keikari from Paris, the Portuguese squad A Thousand Details, Cloze Encounter, Ricky Cross and Nø Shelter, Uväll from Tiblisi, Italians The Alchemical Theory, British Tekra and South Korea's Scøpe and Messiah wait to bring their vision and talent in this first release destined to heat the tracks, combining hypnotic, dark and deep techno sounds with psychical waves and effective grooves, while waiting to be able to return to they with more energy than ever.

40% of the funds from this release will go to Proactiva Open Arms. Open Arms is a non-governmental, non-profit organization whose main mission is to protect, by having a presence at sea, those people who try to reach Europe fleeing from war, persecution or poverty.

They are specialized in surveillance and rescue missions of boats carrying people who need help in the Aegean and Central Mediterranean sea, as well as raising awareness of all the injustices that are happening which have been untold. In this period of COVID-19 pandemic, they are working in Spain with human, logistic and economic resources against the virus, focusing on nursing homes where the virus has especially damaged in Spain with over 30% of the overall deaths. But also collaborating with scientists and specialists. The rest of the funds from this first release will go to help our artists and the project, but also for further actions in order to support the scene that is in serious danger nowadays.
