David Duriez is known for making House and proper underground electronic music since the beginning of the 90's - 30 years in the music industry, founder and keeper of the [briquerouge] label, home of the best french electronic renegades since 1999, David Duriez is lurking in the shadow of the french Electronic scene, keeping it real and true. Artist in various styles of music, dj and innovator, he's always in search of new ways to distribute and value Electronic Music and always a step ahead. Definitely not just one for the hype.

Since 1994, David released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, outputs mainly vinyl on the most renowned labels like 2020Vision, Ovum, Systematic, Pokerflat, F Communication, Mobilee, Under the Counter, Stickman, Classic Music Company, Crosstown Rebels, The End, etc .. (the list is long, see Discogs.com to be convinced) and as many remixes for some of the greatest (think Moby, DJ Hell, Telex, Random Factor, Johnny Fiasco, Paul Johnson, Kenny Hawkes or Mr.C).

Founder of the label Brique Rouge in 1999 and a whole galaxy of other labels, he participated in the creation of internationally recognized labels such as Robsoul, Freak n'Chic or Rz Muzik. David has carved out his own niche with his pigeonhole defying Brique Rouge label, and his helping to redefine underground electronic music. Brique Rouge has released deep house, jacking house, tech-house, acid house, vocal anthems and much more... Definitely a label for open-minded people, not stuck in one genre of House.

Take a look over Ashley Burchett’s back catalogue and you’ll find the Greater London resident has played an understated yet influential role in purporting British techno. Fifteen years ago Burchett’s prevailing Ø [Phase] project debuted on Sheree Rashit and Steve Bicknell’s Cosmic Recordings before providing Cosmic ID with its final record in 2002, and since 2007 Burchett's helped mould and define the sound of Token by becoming the label’s marquee artist.

In 2013 the Belgian imprint finally coaxed the debut album from Ø [Phase], Frames Of Reference, described in Tony Naylor’s 4/5 review for Resident Advisor as, “a techno album of real imagination and depth that, when it needs to be, is brutally functional.” Almost two years since its release Ø [Phase] is back with Alone In Time?, his second studio album which adds to the continuous slew of unrivalled long players Token has put out of late. Token spreads the 11-tracks on Alone In Time? across three heavy weight discs, and the music further demonstrates Burchett’s deft skill in linear arrangements shaped to fit the warehouse frame, while painting a colourful, Detroit influenced side to his productions yet to really be heard to this extent before.

This uncharted sound of Ø [Phase] can be found in tracks like “Remote”, the album’s homage to electro, to the jittery, alien grooves of “Spacialize”, “Mo_del” and “Nep-tune”. There’s big room domination on productions like “Orbitron” and “R-Mash”, while the album’s title-track is a journey through Burchett’s conceptual references to cosmology, time and isolation. Burchett explains, "it was always an intention to make another album and now just felt like the right time. Life moves on, we change and grow. As lessons get learned and ideas form, the desire to express them gradually manifests."

Furthermore, Burchett adds, “Frames Of Reference was about overcoming personal struggles and challenges, while Alone In Time? is more forward facing.” With an extensive back catalogue in his wake, Ø [Phase] has become a relied source for the discerning techno DJ and these new, expertly crafted club cuts add to his ever-expanding pool of productions for selectors to choose from, and it’s clear, if the bouncing rhythm of “Blind Eye” and orchestral epic of “The Maze” is anything to go by, Ø [Phase] isn’t only head strong, but standing tall.

Matrixxman has been a Dekmantel regular for a couple of years now. The San Francisco producer continues to impress with a new triptych for Dekmantel Records. Over the course of three EP’s (Rhythm, Acid, Polyphony), Charles McCloud Duff displays his versatile and original take on house and techno. The concept of the triptych is to explore the range within the confines of a particular limitation.

The first scheduled EP is called “Sector I: Rhythm” and is, obviously, an exercise in rhythm. Just because a track is entirely composed of drums does not mean it has to be lifeless or devoid of feeling. Given the right approach, drums can be symphonic and even tell an exciting tale in their own right. The four-tracker serves up classic rhythms tracks and is a party from the crust to the run-out, checking off Plastikmanesque styles with ‘Process’ and proper Spartan rhythmic patterns on ‘Mainframes 2.0’. Matrixxman never overstuffs his tracks, ‘Glyph’ being the perfect example of a flanging and spacious rhythmic rundown. ‘Instigator’ rounds things of in style, melting layers of drum effects and bone-rattling
machine rhythm.

Following the triumphant release of Ellen Allien’s seventh studio album ‘Nost’, BPitch Control proudly unveil the second wave of remixes from the LP. This time around Truncate, Gerd Janson, FaltyDL and Kyoka are the cohorts who have been brought in to inject their style into three tracks from ‘Nost’; The remixes part II kicks off with Truncate’s version of ‘Innocence’, a stripped back, fidgeting interpretation that operates at a high BPM with plenty of low end. After a storming Soma debut at the tail end of 2017, Cleric returns with the Silent Kingdom EP. This typically intense and raucous new release features an epic VSK remix on the flip.

Phantom Limb opens the EP, all guns blazing. Calamitous percussion hammers through as twisted synth hooks tear the speakers with unrelenting drive. Tag X takes on a more hypnotic functionality yet still embodies Cleric's fierce, vigorous energy. Title track Silent Kingdom concludes Cleric's original tracks for the new EP and doesn't let up on intensity one bit. Pervasive rhythmic elements are bolstered by dystopic pads that cleave through the heart of the track creating an absolute killer, peak time cut. The in-form, Berlin based VSK, fresh from his Soma release under Symmetrical Behaviour offers his take on Silent Kingdom; a decidedly gritty affair he retains the deeper elements of the original but certainly ups the severity.

Another hard hitting and astute release from one of the UK's brightest talents.

Float and Balans producer Hemka joins Matt Edwards’ Rekids Special Projects with three techno cuts entitled ‘The Portrait of Nina Sayers’.

Marseille born producer and DJ, Hemka is one of the most promising techno artists based in Paris. Her fast paced rhythmical sound has an emotional, psychedelic twist which has seen her release on Darko Esser’s Balans and TWR72’s Float Records, with support from the upper echelons like Rebekah, Dasha Rush and ROD. As a DJ she’s shared the stage with figures like Len Faki, Surgeon and James Ruskin and is a regular at Parisian clubs like Concrete and REX, not to mention the French festival circuit, when not performing all over Europe. She now joins the Rekids Special Projects series, following artists like P.Leone, DJ Spider, Tripeo and DJ Deep.

‘Doppelgänger’ features a damaging kick under disjointed piano melodies to establish an eerie aesthetic, before ‘Countdown’ offers emotive pads and twisted bleeps that evolve amidst shuffling drums. Finally, ‘The Portrait Of Nina Sayers’ escalates in tension with an arpeggiated melody, pumping kicks and firm snares.
