At last! This is Lost Soul Enterprises big 15th release on wax, a tidy compilation of off-kilter dance floor cuts and misfit synthpunk anthems.
Side A commences with the gothic, neon-soaked Miami bass of ALONZO's "Cruising with Pap," featuring sinister verses delivered by a shadowy syrup-sipping secret guest vocalist. Up next is bucking bronco NICK KLEIN's slow-mo industrial headbanger "Posture Test.” The sonic equivalent of a sweat-soaked concrete floor, it lurches along at its own mechanical pace amid the metallic hiss and howl. Lastly, wild synth lines and ethereal dubbed-out samples dart in and out over a tough, punchy rhythmic foundation in NAEEM's "TLX," an android's sci-fi electro vision gone haywire.
On the B side, HEIDI SABERTOOTH’s “Was It You” launches us deep into chugging acidic territory, combining enigmatic spoken vocals and a psychedelic, slowly evolving SH-101 line over a persuasive groove. Like a slap in the face after that comes raucous synth-punk powerhouse SSPS with “Paradise Lozt,” raw as fuck, chanting a litany of dystopian tales atop pumping drums and a wash of demented organ-like synth stabs. Finally we close with the short but powerful “New Vape City” by the nomadic DOUCE ANGOISSE - an absolute earworm, a doleful coldwave ballad whose lush production plays perfect counterpoint to the icy, deadpan sentiments within.

Earwiggle returns with a new 11-track (2x12") compilation for its 30th release, featuring The Mover, Heidi Sabertooth, Kerrie, Surit, Arjun Vagale, Pyran, Keepsakes, Ingen, Slave To Society, Duran Duran Duran and Dublin Terror Squad. Conceived during the pandemic, "Music For The Wilted Generation" is a tense exploration through dark minimal, industrial and club techno sounds, that culminates with some of the fiercest material to appear on the label yet.

Lobster returns to it's scorched earth roots with a dark, gritty blend of techno-based power traxx from New York staple Heidi Sabertooth.

Tracks scraped from the surface of the NY underground. Proper hardware jams with a raw, scorched edge!

Eyes Are Watching combines punched kicks, squelched synths and pitched-down grunting mosh vox. The mood then lightens a touch for the hypnotic, dusty hardware workout Non Such. Jackin' Chitown vibes peppered with plucked & arp'd synths.

On the flip Makin Cutz is pure can-recorded techno. Overdrive-central in a caged industrial basement. Detuned acid & raw af hammering drum programming. Then for the finishing move, Weeding Through Distortion adds some off-club IDM-tinged sonic flavour to proceedings. Echoes of early Warp (think elements of Autechre live in Wakefield in the early 90's) shot through with some hard US noise processing. A tough, melodic gem.

It’s not easy to detect the exact moment where an electronic music track jumps from the listening experience to the dancing necessity. Neither it is to find an artist capable of releasing a solo album with such a wide and rich spectrum of sounds as M2O2 does in his new  Cause and Effect album. Some of the track names are inspired by massive nature phenomenons, from “Tsunami” to “Earthquake” and, in Cause and Effect, you will find music ready to be mixed, to let yourself go or, maybe, to bring you to deeper thoughts and reflections.

Like the weather, that changes and evolves between seasons, M2O2’s new album trespasses multiple atmospheres and temperatures: it plays with many intensities and genres, from the roughness and strength of techno to the experimentation fields that use other slower tempos, syncopated; when the proper beat delivers an infinite range of sound experiences.

Alongside Cause and Effect you will be surrounded by dark, suggestive and sinuous tones: you may even recognize the trace of the artist behind the project: Kalter Ende. Maybe you don’t. But, as long as one of the tracks inspires or excites you enough, the creative effort to bring together the synergies between the analog and digital worlds will have fulfilled its purpose.

Pan-Pot’s Second State delivers the next installment of their compilation series, welcoming fresh talent and label mainstays for a dynamic fusion of intensity, character and the thumping techno that the esteemed Berlin imprint is best-known for. 

Brazil’s @allanfeytor kicks off with twisted echoing melodies and mutated rotating sirens in ‘Portal’, immersing listeners into a lucid tunnel that characterizes the track’s name. @chrishirose and @thereasonyberlin, welcomed back to their mothership Second State, team up for ‘Guilty Bliss’ and deliver a shuddering beat with a kick that commands a groove throughout. Up next are Turkish producers @ferhatalbayrak and @kuvoka with ‘Tube Alloys’, where toms add another layer to the percussion on the track, before being complemented by chirping minor keys, while distorted claps and hi-hats join to inject a surge of energy. 

@frankyeffe presses on and gets straight to business with ‘Root’, a pummeling cut with rigorous kicks and a mesmeric vocal sample blended throughout. Fellow Italian @giovannicarozza provides the roller here with ‘Ambigramma’. Hi-hats and claps echoing in the distance are layered over a thundering kick-drum, building suspense before reverting back to play with our anticipation once again. Footwork’s head honcho @jay-lumen-official pays homage to his trademark heavy bassline and vocal samples in his contribution ‘Dust’, a rasping cut with a rebounding male vocal, that evolves into rave territory for its final ascent. @jurdeg proceeds with ‘Spandau’, a peak time chugging cut laced with an eerie demonic narrative for the lovers of the heavier kind of techno.

Warped keys and distorted kicks follow in @lucas-aguilera’s ‘Box Closed’, accompanied by chunky kick drums that punch through, and perfectly random synth notes which blend together with maximum effect. ‘RS01’ from Second State newcomer @patrick-milaa delivers us a more mainstage feel. Kick drums tremor throughout the track along with a synth lead that elicits a sinister atmosphere, while an acid line and bellowing horns keep listeners guessing. @richard-cleber showcases a stripped down cut with ‘Invasion’, a contemporary polished track that doesn’t compromise on the kick. Rounding off the 9th compilation of the label is Lithuania’s @djsamanta with ‘Hello’, leaving us with a flurry of spacey instrumentals amidst a trippy sliced up vocal sample.

You could completely understand many musicians going through a creative drought, built through the ongoing frustration and back and forth that our lives are currently experiencing. 

However, the Irish dance music scene on the release front has never felt quite as  vibrant, as the producers and labels up and down the country continue to create, collaborate, share, release and come up with new ways to thrive throughout the Covid era we're living through.

Like many artists in the country, I have no doubt that Matheson and Percboi 3000 have experienced the strain at some point in the last 10 months, however, last week the exciting pair released a 4 track EP on Belfast based TSRR label.

Four Four Premiere: Matheson - Harbour [TSRR02]

The sure fire way into our hearts is with ghetto tech. High Fidelity makes his Local Selection mix debut, with a blistering hour of electro and ghetto tech to soundtrack your Wednesday afternoon.

High Fidelity, aka Robert Stapleton, is a familiar face within the Irish club scene. With icons such as Jensen Interceptor, DeFeKT and Aloka as his idols, Robert’s abstract electro and techno productions hugely complement the fast-paced energy found in his live sets. 

A host of club and festival appearances across the Emerald Isle, including Life Festival and Higher Vision, has provided a platform to propel his distinctive performances to a wider audience.  

As his production catalogue continues to grow, propelled by new releases with Wachita China’s 'WC Fast Music' label and Edinburgh based label 'Milkit', with his latest delivery ‘Unknown Entity’ released on the 5th of February with Irish label 'Choki Biki'. The track features as part of the 6 track various artists album entitled Breaks for Days Vol. 1, which includes fantastic contributions from an all Irish roster of artists and aims to celebrate the versatility of breaks.

With a back catalogue of scheduled releases, remixes, and featured mixes all ahead of him, it's safe to say 2021 is looking like one to remember, however, right now, it's his Local Selection mix, as High Fidelity takes the controls for the afternoon.

Expect a huge serving of electro and ghetto tech, as High Fidelity provides us with one hell of an hour, featuring tracks from the likes of  False Persona, DJ Sickfuck, Amadezzy, 7uka, YTP,  Marcus32x and Raw Takes to name a few.
