Fans of techno’s industrial wave should already be keenly aware and engaged with Silent Servant, Regis and James Ruskin's impeccably curated Jealous God imprint but, if for some insane reason it wasn't on your radar then <a href="http://www.fabriclondon.com/blog/view/audio-silent-servant-jealous-god-x-fabric-mix" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this mix</a> that Silent Servant provided for us last week is the perfect introduction to its output and ethos. The artist responsible for the label’s fourth and most recent release is Broken English Club, otherwise known as Oliver Ho (and perhaps more currently as Raudive). An individual with one heck of a back catalogue, Ho first originated in the mid 90’s with a tribal-weighted take on techno and since then he’s proved himself to be an individual with a wide ranging path in production, his mantra seemingly simply to develop and explore. 

Broken English Club debut outing found a decidedly apt home with Jealous God, fitting in in perfectly with what Silent Servant and his collaborators are all about - a stylish, punkish minimalism evocative of a seedier view of the world. With only the one full release available to date, Ho has impressed with a promise of something special under the guise so with his debut live set in RM2 arriving this Saturday, we took the opportunity to look behind the ideas that have formed the make-up of this latest endeavour from a consistently eclectic and exciting producer...

Lindsey Herbert is a prominent figure in today's techno scene, particularly renowned across the US’ Southwest for her unwavering dedication to techno's more underground sounds and sound design, and her ability to command crowds no matter the circumstances.  

Beginning as a young raver with an intense passion for dance music and its community, Lindsey began her own musical journey at the age of 15 and has been at it for nearly half of her life. Since her first gig in 2014, she has been a fixture alongside top-tier artists in the bustling scenes of Los Angeles and San Francisco, leaving an indelible mark on both cities. Originally a resident and booker of Robot Ears and now a resident of Direct to Earth, Lindsey has been an integral part of San Francisco's techno landscape, while also gracing the stages of prominent LA promoters such as OBSERVE, Synthetik Minds, 6AM, Dirty Epic, RE/FORM, and more. Her influence extends beyond borders with steady headlining gigs both domestically and internationally, while her more recent relocation to Phoenix sees her actively nurturing the local techno community as a resident of Techno Snobs. 

In 2019, Lindsey made her solo production debut on LA's Ascetic Limited, marking the beginning of a prolific journey in the studio. Her discography has grown exponentially, with recent drops on esteemed U.S. underground labels like Truncate, 4-Trk, Blank Code, Northern Parallels, and Crisis of Man, as well as notable European and South American imprints such as Noise Manifesto, Planet X, NECHTO, Suara and many others. The future holds even more promise with countless forthcoming releases on the horizon.

However, Lindsey's trajectory extends far beyond her production career. Notably, she graced the stages of Movement Festival in Detroit and the iconic Tresor in Berlin in 2023, further solidifying her presence on the global stage. Additionally, she was personally invited by techno luminary Richie Hawtin to tour throughout North America as part of his From Our Minds concept, further cementing her status in the industry. 

In a noteworthy evolution, Lindsey's personal sound has transitioned to a more hypnotic, groovy, and dancefloor-oriented style. Her sets, ranging from ambient to deep to peak-time and high-energy, are meticulously crafted to suit the atmosphere, aiming to immerse listeners in a captivating journey and lock them into a relentless groove.

Beyond her performances and productions, Lindsey is also a co-founder of EvilGroove, a burgeoning label that continues to expand its roster of talented emerging artists. The label has been actively hosting showcases, providing a platform for the next generation of techno talent to shine.

With her dynamic sound, magnetic stage presence, and relentless dedication to pushing boundaries, Lindsey Herbert stands as a formidable force in the technosphere, leaving an indelible mark wherever she goes.

Sigvard is a techno artist and producer from Belgium. Grown from a project from artist Tom Hades, Sigvard has returned to his stripped down arrangements and use of limited instruments in the studio. This has led to a more focused and direct sound that still retains the power and emotion of his earlier work.
Sigvard's music is influenced by a wide range of artists, from early pioneers like Kraftwerk and Afrika Bambaataa to more contemporary acts like Underworld and Laurent Garnier. This diverse range of influences can be heard in his music, which often blends elements of different styles together to create something unique.

It was a bold Bedrock introduction for rising producer Montel last year as he signed his first brace of tracks to the label’s Re:Structured compilation. He made it a tantalising trio when label boss John Digweed asked him to remix the Bedrock classic ‘Beautiful Strange’ for the same release and after the success, support and
impressive chart placings of the tracks, it was never gonna be a long wait for his return to the label.

A fresh wave of material was sent ahead of John's South America and Australia tour at the turn of the year, but it was tracks from a second Spring time wave that really connected, with ‘Semper’ and ‘He’s Not There’ being selected for Montel’s debut EP.

“I would say ‘Semper’ is a contemporary techno banger”, says the Irishman. “Definitely one for the expansive, dark rooms and big soundsystems. Its a percussive peaker, but also quite trippy”.

"I layered the basslines on ‘He’s Not There’ to really grab the attention and looked to bring a bit of drama and mayhem with the breakdown. Its another that's geared to those big rooms.”

With both receiving the Digweed tried and tested stamp of approval, its now time to unleash the beasts. Enjoy.

A homecoming for Singaporean Xhin as he releases on the Singaporean label Midnight Shift for its limited triptych capsule collection focusing on straight-up techno: ‘SHIFT LTD’. A 4-tracker full of asiatic heat bound for the dancefloor from the iconoclastic sound designer. This is the first release out of three.

This is a prerecorded briefing made prior to your departure, and which for security reasons of the highest importance has been known on board during the mission, only by your H-A-L 9000 computer. Now that you are in Jupiter's space and the entire crew is revived it can be told to you. Eighteen months ago the first evidence of intelligent life off the Earth was discovered. It was buried 40 feet below the lunar surface near the crater Tycho. Except for a single, very powerful radio emission aimed at Jupiter, the four-million year old black monolith has remained completely inert. Its origin and purpose are still a total mystery.
