One of my favourite creative collaborations.

Together they created an incredible, beautifully disturbing and ethereal world of fantasy.
I wish I could travel back in time, so I could see these movies for the very first time again.

Starship Layin It On The Line

A tribute to Giorgio Moroder and the late, great Donna Summer. 

"I feel love" is one of my absolute favourite tracks of all time. There are plenty of edits/remixes already out there, but I wanted to do something a little different and put a new spin on things. 

Only 4 bars of the original music containing the amazing Moog Modular synth bass line was used. The rest was built from scratch in my studio using a Korg MS-20, Roland SH2, Oberheim OB8, Solina String Machine and a Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus. 

I locked myself away for days, learning and replaying the ever so tasteful parts created by Giorgio. After trying 3 different vocoders I settled on the VP-330 which was to become the vocal element of this edit. No one can ever replace the amazingness of Donna Summer... I just like vocoders.

It's no secret that hardcore fans of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' (and specifically fans of the 1973 Norman Jewison film adaptation) have long since taken issue with how, well, horrible the sound mix always seems to be on each release, both the soundtrack album and the actual film itself. Many have speculated that the original master tapes to undertake such a professional "remix" have been lost or destroyed. Thus began a new online project, for the fans BY the fans. The process for this new 2020 remix of the soundtrack has become possible, most of all, by way of an online tool called Voxiso which, more or less, successfully isolates vocal tracks from already-mixed songs. So with that step one completed, we next took to a direct rip from the 2017 French blu-ray release, specifically its "music and effects" audio track which most assuredly finally brought out the fantastic orchestra and arrangements that had been buried and practically unheard in various mixes for so long. I also made use of the "left" and "right" channels from the 1998 DVD 4.0 mix, and adjusted everything accordingly in Audacity. This is a long and arduous process, most definitely a labor of love, but I only hope my fellow 'Jesus Christ Superstar' fans will most definitely enjoy this new listening experience for this work we hold so dear...until the "official" thing, if ever, comes to fruition.
