Moonscape for string quartet draws inspiration from the stasis of lifeless images of the moon's surface, contrasting with the mysterious and magical influences of folklore and mythology of lunar deities. As the musical form of contrasting sections unfolds almost as a traditional rondo, sometimes having an improvisatory feel, the final section becomes a polyrhythmic dance.

Spread culminates a long process of compositional exploration for me. Much of the material has been created through algorithms guided by intuition to meet intuited aesthetic goals in the compositional process, specifically the vertical expansion or compression of harmonic and rhythmic materials. The challenge has been to create an organic flow, one that walks a line between the outpouring of musical texture and expression of melodic material. Spread for piano

Shimmer is the sequel to Spread. I take favorite moments from Spread and transform between them, providing musical commentary as desired. I love this piece; I wrote it while in Vienna in August of 2022 when I came to perform at the Golden Key Piano Composition Competition Awards ceremony at Ehrbar Hall. It was then that I fell in love with Vienna, and had the vision to join Universal Edition.

Shimmer

Videos of the dancers and background are controlled by the attacks of the piano, whereby MIDI is routed through Max/MSP/Jitter patch controlling the playback region. Sounds were recorded by exploring the inside of a grand piano then granulated using software I created through Max/MSP.  Final production was done in Logic. Source videos were produced by Tami Herbst and Sarah Joyce Church, the latter whom performed with me the first act of Becoming at the 2019 International Computer Music Conference 2019 at NYU, and the first and second acts at the Oh My Ears festival in Phoenix. Mommification  is the third act in the multi-movement interdisciplinary work Becoming for live piano, voice, and dance, with pre-produced immersive audio and video.
