Over the past 6 years WOLF Music have earned their stripes as stalwart purveyors of refined House and Disco. Now, in the follow up to Medlar and Greymatter’s debut LPs and EPs from the likes of Ishmael, Ossie and Casino Times they ready their 3rd LP from Dutchman Frits Wentink.

Now residing in Amsterdam, Frits has a glowing back catalogue of soulful, Lo Fi club material that’s touched Heist Recordings as well as WOLF in the form of his ‘Mouse’ and ‘Goose’ EPs. With an experimental approach to hardware and instrumentation, his work blooms naturally through jams and improv and in this - his debut LP: ‘Rarely Pure, Never Simple’ we see a development in this experimentation to enlivening effect.

Working with a meld of grubby samples, chunky percussion and the frequent vocal accompaniment of Utrecht based Loes Jongerling, Rarely Pure Never Simple is a journey through Frits’ influences forged into a cohesive pack of grooves and interludes tinged with a certain charming nostalgia.

Music For Dreams is releasing a new artist album from Ruf Dug entitled ‘Island’ on 17th August 2015. A 12” vinyl sampler of the album was released on 22nd June.
 
In the summer of 2014 Ruf Dug spent 3 months on the island of Guadeloupe in the French Caribbean. Earlier in the year Kenneth Bager had asked him to record an album for Music For Dreams.

Seizing the opportunity to live out his own Compass Point studios fantasy he put together a portable studio that would fit into a suitcase - two half-rack synthesizers, a couple of effects units, a laptop and a 4-track cassette recorder. He set up the studio in the spare bedroom of his villa and spent the next 12 weeks watching the sun set and making the album.

All the tracks were written and recorded in Guadeloupe, with Nev Cottee beaming in vocals and guitar parts for a couple of the tracks direct from the heart of Mancunia, hooking into the powerful and long-standing musical relationship between Manchester and that most famous of sunset islands - Ibiza.
 
This music is not only for sunsets, but also for late-night smuggling adventures; for tropical storms and rum-soaked afternoons; for pirates, playboys and people like you and me.

The end result helps take you to an island of sound that’s neither Guadeloupe nor Ibiza, but rather that island of the imagination, one we all escape to from time to time, no matter where we find ourselves. 

Hailing from Manchester, Ruf Dug is a charismatic old school talent who makes raw records that rely on great sampling with releases on labels like Popular People’s Front and Unknown To The Unknown, but also Ruffy’s own limited Ruf Kutz imprint with support from Ben UFO, Moodymann, Craig Richards, Erol Alkan and many other tastemakers the world over.

After more than a decade DJing, promoting and helping cultivate Sydney’s broader Soulful beats scene, Australian Producer Edseven returns in a big way. 

Inaugurating Midnight Swim’s catalogue with the first release, Edseven’s ‘Broadside’ single sees the Producer upping the tempo and bringing a collective of heavy-hitting friends along for a dip. Beat Spacek, Peret Mako and Chasm all offer unique yet faithful renditions of the original in this hearty remix package that’s bound to be on high rotation at peak time and at sleep time. 

‘Broadside’ is that rare, uncategorisable type of mid-tempo House tune that ends up in a different place to where it started; a Soul sample is faded out giving way to a warm percussive beat before the filtered chords get to work, providing ample length and breadth to keep the groove going for the song’s five minute duration - it’s that perfect balance of broken, wonky and funky vibes that leave you wanting more. 

Steve Spacek’s Beat Spacek project (Ninja Tune) puts the soul loop to great effect, toughening it up with light Acid twinges and bringing it in to early Floating Points territory. The perennial Soul man has recently been rinsing his version during his tour across Europe to great effect in clubs and on radio. Peret Mako’s hypnotic late night Deep House burner adds a whole new vocal hook on top of the track, stretching out the vibes, adding more layers and sounds while building to a crescendo. Making this one absolutely essential for the Balearic warehouse set. With a nod to Edseven’s Hip Hop roots, fellow Sydney producer Chasm chops the sample and works with the rhythm to create a mix suitable for Hip Hop, Beats and Digital Dancehall sets.

The name Hugo Mari might not ring a bell just yet, but we’ve got a feeling this is about to change real soon. He’s released a handful of EP’s under his former alias Books on Omena and XVI including his own edit series on the latter label (check out his killer track ‘in the groove or his jazzy deep house collaboration with Zodiac called ‘Feel it in my Bones’). Considering he’s also remixed well known artists like afrobeat legend Dele Sosimi and grime master Trim, you might share our view of this amazingly talented and versatile producer. New York vocalist Kosmo Kint joined the Toy Tonics crew. Born in Trinidad and raised in New York City, Kosmo has been part of the recent Brooklyn scene, singing in several projects in NYC before moving to Berlin two years ago. To find like minded people to create new lyrics driven dancemusic.

In Berlin he teamed up with the Toy Tonics boys and now TT boss Kapote and the crew are working with him in Berlin Kreuzberg to find a new R&B & Disco influenced style of electronic dance music. The first release is a collabo between french talent Mangabey and Kosmo Kint - produced by Kapote.

This two songs have a chilled L.A. G Funk Vibe that makes you think about certain Dr. Dre productions from the 90's combined with some broken beats and 4 to the floor house vibes. The song might remember some french touch tracks too and some might think about that West London early 2000 „Dego“ Vibe maybe. ... Anyway, its new and there is not a name yet for that style. Let’s see where the TT crew will bring Kosmo Kint sonically over the next years.
