Italian DJ and producer Pancratio lands on Love on the Rocks with ‘Love Letters’, his first EP for the cult Berlin-based label founded by PARAMIDA. The record, another bold and unique entry in the label’s impressive catalogue, arrives after a decade of behind-the-scenes influence and personal artistic evolution for Pancratio, marking a turning point in his journey: from anonymous studio architect to an expressive, full-fledged solo artist.

Pancratio has long been a quiet force in underground music. As the founder of Otta Res Lab, he spent years producing, mixing, and mastering records for other artists, building a reputation among insiders for his meticulous analog workflows and deeply felt soundscapes. Now, with Love Letters, he turns the spotlight on himself.

Crafted in just a matter of weeks during a period of profound personal transition, the EP tells the story of Pancratio’s relocation from Rome to Berlin, a leap of faith that would shape the emotional and sonic narrative of the release. Following a summer immersed in the city's clubs and festivals, the producer returned to the studio with renewed clarity and purpose. What followed was a spontaneous burst of creativity: one track a day, each emerging with fluid ease from his analog-heavy setup.

“I called the record Love Letters because it's a message to all the people I left behind,” Pancratio shared in a personal note. “It’s my way of saying: everything’s going great here. I made the right choice.”

His music caught the attention of PARAMIDA thanks to the encouragement, and quiet hustle, of friends and collaborators Simone de Kunovich and Giammarco Orsini, both longtime allies of Pancratio and contributors to his label One Trip to Avyon. What began as an offhand suggestion turned into a fast-forming collaboration, with Pancratio sending a new track to Paramida every day for a week. The EP took shape naturally from those exchanges.

Pancratio sets the tone from the start on ‘A Neverending Story’, with layers of kicks, vocal samples, huge grooves and deceptively simple and effective percussive loops, then flips the track, without warning, with pads that add unexpected melancholy and emotional depth.

‘Artificial Intelligence’ jumps right into its groove, setting up a left turn into retrofuturistic sci-fi romance. Intimate, softly-spoken vocals lead into an otherworldly, vocoded lullaby, and then Pancratio removes the ground from beneath our feet. Masterfully extending sections of breaks, we’re lifted out of the arrangement before being dropped right back in the deep end, in moments that will destroy dancefloors while enveloping them in complexly touching emotional highs.

From there, the tonal contrasts just get bigger, weirder and more beautiful. ‘I Promise’ builds an irresistible house groove into a hypnotic summer jam, before tearing a hole in it it with a patchwork of vocal samples and off-pitch synths, snapping it out of its comfort zone and into completely unexpected territory before dropping it right back into the deep end. It’s a devastating sequence handled with the lightest touch, mirroring the twists and turns of its subject matter in a moment of sublime sonic storytelling.

Love Letters continues Pancratio’s pursuit of emotional depth through minimalist, analog-rooted production. Each track is a one-take from start to finish, recorded straight from his hardware setup and only minimally mastered, evoking a tactile sense of warmth and spontaneity rarely found in today’s digital-heavy landscape. 

Love Letters is not only a new chapter in Pancratio’s artistic evolution, it’s a heartfelt message delivered in music: to friends, to places once called home, and to everyone just now discovering his world.

For its fourth vinyl outing, Aterral delivers a special collection under the title Sampler Vol. 1, a handpicked selection of standout cuts from the label’s blossoming catalog. A celebration of the imprint’s sound, reimagined for wax.

Side A opens with Synchrony, a lush and atmospheric collaboration between Tour-Maubourg and label founder Carlo. Deep, textural and brimming with subtle movement, this one’s for the dreamers. Next up, Black Loops joins forces with Emanuele Barilli on Go, a propulsive slice of peak-time house with punchy drums, fizzy hats, and a bassline that won’t quit. Baloo steps in for Graduate, co-produced with Carlo. Jazzy, skippy and irresistibly groovy, it’s a classy closer for the A-side with timeless appeal.

On the flip, Black Loops showcases his solo finesse with Proto / Emotions, a raw yet soulful roller that hits all the right nostalgic notes. Then it’s Carlo’s turn again with Mediterraneo, warm, sun-soaked house with shimmering pads and a bassline made for golden hour sets. Closing the collection, Black Loops returns with Don’t Think Bout It, a dusty, bouncing groove full of feeling and flair.

Whilst the name Tom Esselle may be new to many - for those in the know, Tom has been a pivotal figure in the South East London scene for over 15 years. Tom broke onto the scene as part of the formative Wholemeal collective, booking floating points in 2009 in a 200 cap basement club and hosting regular events for the next decade whose lineups read like a who’s who of the London underground scene.

Tom made his indelible mark on the subculture of Peckham when he opened YAM records with brother in arms Theodor. If you’ve ever been to a Rhythm Section NYE dance, you’ve seen these two play back to back for the midnight countdown. It has become a tradition- and for good reason. These two DJ’s and collectors at the very peak of their powers opened a record store which, along with the Local Radio platform Balami - gave a space to the nascent scene emerging at that time. The bricks and mortar provided a foundation for many key talents to flourish - not least Chaos in the CBD - whose early releases on YAM alongside those on Rhythm Section INTL were crucial to their early successes. Factor in the now classic album from Brit award Winning Ezra Collective Keyboardist Joe Armon-Jones and Maxwell Owin “idiom” , Romal Kultaan ( of Lemon Lounge infamy and you have something of a local hit factory.
‘ Employee of the month’ Beans ( chaos in the cbd) was taken under the wing of the Yam founder in the early days and the pair have since formed a special bond. With Beans having conquered the globe with his aforementioned project, he honourably returned the favour - helping Tom refine his production with engineering tips and Studio time. It sounds like Tom might have reached his 10,000 hours: it’s now his time to shine.

Tom makes the kind of house music I wish I could make myself. It’s rooted in organic grooves, latin percussion and warm synths. Textures hover around bold basslines that do exactly what they are intended to do. The music is precise but groovy, it’s arresting but never obnoxious. It’s confident, it’s direct - not too brash but nor is it selling itself short or just sitting in the groove. The songs evolve, mutate, swell and contract- all in the name of maximum dancefloor destruction.

If you like Classy, forward thinking house music with one foot in the golden era of tech house and another in contemporary soulful compositions then this EP is for you.
