A pleasurable pastiche of hazy beats, spectral synth work and saturating textures, International is a deep and dreamy endeavor. From diaphanous vocal samples to the silken strum of a guitar, soft ocean echoes to a laid-back 808, the EP lures the listener into a plush world that teems with sensory treasures. Drums glimmer like a musical mirage, gossamer melodies mingle with scattering beats while smooth waves wash over shuffles of sound.

This chill-inducing addition to the Brainfeeder catalog is compellingly rich and thoughtful, with four solid tracks that contribute another diverse layer to the label’s growing legacy. Like all of Matthewdavid’s work, International is far ahead of its time and transmutates from beginning to end, shapeshifting towards a fluid future with every glistening layer.

Manifestations is a funky and diverse sonic collection from Mono/poly, a talented member of the Brainfeeder roster. A well-paced work, the EP’s momentum grows and then contorts into other dimensions, balancing powerful rhythms and a beautiful depth for a holistically moving experience.

Manifestations has seven tracks, each with a very different tone. From the warm opening haze of the title tune to the complete crashing madness of “Punch The Troll In The Neck,” Mono/poly has cultivated a choice sonic garden to explore. The shifty beats of “Glow” are straight off the streets of Los Angeles, while the stakeout sounds of “Toe Jam” descend into the groove with fresh urgency. “Forest Dark” has a bipolar personality altogether, with a funky industrial grind that flips over headfirst into the ripples of a peaceful pond.

Jennifer Lee aka TOKiMONSTA prefers to work late - or early, depending on how you look at it. Most of her music is made between two and seven in the morning, because at that time of night "my mind works in strange and mysterious ways." Hence the title of this EP, a series of warm but decidedly woozy pieces of music, the soundtrack to the oddest, most beautiful dreams you've ever had.

From the bouncing bass-beds of "Bright Shadows," the Cocteau's-meet-LA-Beat of "Darkest Dim" (like "Little Pleasures," featuring the exquisite vocals of Gavin Turek), on into "Moving Forward" (which sounds like the music R2D2 makeslove to), the driving, relentless beat of "Day Job," this is an EP suffused with both warmth and creativity.

As music from the Los Angeles area thrives and swells across the globe, one of it’s most beloved and deeply rooted members steps out with an LP full of infectious melodies, subtle hip-hop and a kaleidoscope of sound. Music for the imagination. 

Ardour is the debut album by long time running My Hollow Drum, Dublab, and recent Brainfeeder artist, Teebs. Born in New York to Malawi and Barbados origins, Mtendere (pronounced “ten- 
de-ra”) (Chichewa for “Peace”) Mandowa, is a 23 year-old producer who bounced around the East Coast before finally planting his feet in the Southern California suburb of Chino Hills. 

A city known for it’s rolling hills and FBI ranking of one of the safest in the United States, Teebs developed his artistry right outside Los Angeles’ county line and just south of the Orange County beach community. Music may have come by accident, literally. A skateboard injury sidelined Teebs, which led to a concentration on art. 

Through great focus and vision, Teebs made a name for himself as a skilled painter. His artwork found on canvases of all form, from walls to record covers, become imbued with vibrant color, energy, and shape. 

From paint and brush, Teebs slowly found himself in the world of music making. 

Early in his musical pursuits, Teebs joined a group of like-minded friends and producers who went by the name ‘My Hollow Drum’. Within this crew, he was able to build new ideas, share works and perfect his production craft. Intrigued with what was going on in Los Angeles’ evolving electronic scene, he never expected to fall directly into it. 

He began interning for the acclaimed online radio stream, Dublab. This sparked his self-expression, spirit and growth as an artist. Being around music, art and a creative atmosphere while brushing shoulders with the artists he admired from the area. 

Teebs was accepted into the Red Bull Music Academy for their 2008 edition in Barcelona, Spain. Upon arrival back home, Teebs became even more focused on his music and art. A chance meeting with Flying Lotus led to his involvement and joining of the newly founded Brainfeeder collective. Having previously heard from local producers and DJs about this new up and comer, Lotus didn’t hesitate to take Teebs under his wing after hearing some of his earliest beats. Ardour began to bloom. 

Ardour was made during two major periods of his life. Having just lost his job and with little to no money, Teebs moved into the same apartment complex as Flying Lotus and shared living quarters with another Brainfeeder affiliate, Samiyam. It was here that the beginning stages and one-half of Ardour were created. Before Teebs was aware his album was showing itself, his father who had been terminally ill, passed away. He moved back home and stopped making music. 

Back home, Teebs finished were he left off. 

Ardour, two years in the making, is the result of Teebs’ journey thus far. More than the music, it’s the feeling he wants to convey. The idea of hearing something you really love, the moment you know something is really special. Flying Lotus said, “Teebs music sounds like an island vacation...The way Avatar looks.” What’s often said about Teebs’ sound is the warmth it has on the listener. It’s only fitting that a title like Ardour, which is defined as “great intensity and warmth” is used to represent this essential chapter to the ever-growing puzzle of Los Angeles.

'Death Gate' marks the return of Los Angeles-based producer and DJ William Bensussen, otherwise known as The Gaslamp Killer. The new five track EP, on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label, is a dark, bleak creation that is unmistakably part of the GLK’s universe. Describing the record, he states “Death Gate is about exploring the places between life and death, and the shattering of inner journeys that wait for us there.”

In anticipation of the release of his debut full-length album Breakthrough, the Gaslamp Killer offers a taste of the ominous urgency that infiltrates his sound with “Flange Face / Seven Years of Bad Luck for Fun.”

“Flange Face (with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson)” rattles into being from a scratchy dissonance and soon descends into a distorted, doom-filled drama. Twisted with tension and hemmed in by a smack of solemn strings, the track operates on a frequency of pure horror. “Flange Face (Low End Theory Edit)” takes it to the club, a bass-heavy gut puncher stripped down to the beats.

With loose drums and a rash of razor-covered synths, “Seven Years of Bad Luck for Fun (with Dimlite)” unsettles into a bath of cold shudders. Inky shadows lurk just beneath the surface, dark reflections of the monsters that are strung between the beats.

Suggestively sinister, the Gaslamp Killer’s latest release is a glimpse of the artist’s contorted sonic landscape, a frightening world of chattering evil and chills that bite into the spine.
