Brainphase is a Des Moines, Iowa-based quintet pushing the limits of progressive rock, psychedelic funk, alternative metal, and nu-metal rap rock. The band’s roots trace back to fall 2023, when Joe Corbin (drums), Aaron Lea (bass), and Rich Cantrell (keys) reunited from their Cirrus Minor days to jam and ignite fresh creative energy. Their sessions gained momentum with the addition of Blake C. Erickson (guitar/producer), recruited by Lea via a Facebook post, whose creative use of effects pedals and intricate, unique solos infuse the sound with bold texture and innovation. Joined by Spencer Fenimore (vocals), whose melodic, catchy vocals—delivering infectious hooks and emotive range—add the icing on the cake, Brainphase weaves funky basslines, atmospheric keys, and dynamic rhythms into a consciousness-bending sonic tapestry. Anchored by Erickson’s production at Pineal Productions, the band crafts an unpredictable groove that’s both cerebral and visceral.
