Hi - this piece is a bit of an experimental recording.  I used a felted piano and glockenspiel and recorded onto tape using a Revox B77 reel-to-reel tape machine.  I hope you like this :)

Klassik, Folk, Jazz, Ethno, Weltmusik? Es fällt schwer, die Musik von Pianistin Marialena Fernandes und dem Ensemble »Hotel Palindrone« zu kategorisieren. Zwischen dem »Almschrei«, Tänzen aus Österreich und Schweden, traditionellen Liedern aus Goa / Indien und klassischen Werken von Joseph Haydn, Domenico Scarlatti und Bela Bartok spiegelt sich beinahe die gesamte Bandbreite musikalischer Stile. Dabei steht die Entdeckung und Neu-Interpretation der verbindenden Elemente zwischen Klassik und traditioneller Volks- und Weltmusik an vorderster Stelle. Verspielt und doch ernsthaft, voller Experimentierfreude und zugleich mit großem Respekt, mit Instrumenten wie Dudelsack, Drehleiher, Naturflöten, Gitarre oder Saxophon, bedienen sich die Multiinstrumentalisten einer Sprache, die - im Sinne Joseph Haydns - wohl alle verstehen, die bereit sind, Grenzen zu überwinden und das Neue zu suchen.
Classical music, folk, jazz, ethno, world music? It is impossible to fit pianist Marialena Fernandes' and Hotel Palindrone's music into any single genre. Between the Alpine Yodel, Dances from Austria and Scandinavia, traditional songs from Goa / India and classical works by Joseph Haydn, Domenico Scarlatti and Bela Bartok, the program reflects almost the entire spectrum of musical styles. The focus lies on the discovery and re-interpretation of the interconnecting elements between classical music and traditional folk and world music. Playful but serious, full of experimentation and at the same time with great respect, using instruments such as bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, guitar or saxophone, the five multi-instrumentalists use a language which - hopefully as defined by Joseph Haydn - is understood by everyone who is willing to go beyond borders and search something new.

He is the author of four books, the most recent being Just Design: Socially Conscious Design for Critical Causes. His work has been exhibited at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, the Hiroshima Museum of Contemporary Art (Japan), the San Francisco Museum of Craft + Design and the Smithsonian Institution and is part of the permanent design archives at the Denver Art Museum. Simmons is an adjunct professor of design at the California College of the Arts. He is an active advisor and mentor to Project M and a past president of AIGA San Francisco.
