This is the song of Migaloo the White Whale recorded in 1998.

We dedicate this recording to Uncle Lewis Walker, Aboriginal elder of the Wahrlabal tribe of the Bundjalung nation of Byron Bay. Uncle Lewis is a Keeper of the Ancient Songlines of the Whales. We honour the Ancestor Spirits of Bundjalung Country. We honour Uncle Lewis's Dreaming Lineage and we honour Uncle Lewis's innate understanding of the relationship between the water, the whales, the Earth and humanity. Uncle Lewis reminds us that all Earth's creatures are our brothers and sisters.

Blue Whales produce such a low frequency sound that a single singing whale, in the right environment, can be heard across hundreds and even thousands of ocean miles.

Keep in mind, the Blue Whales are the largest animals to have ever roamed the Earth. Their population was once thought to have peaked at 200,000. Now, following persistent hunting through the 1960s, the population has dwindled to near 10,000 World-wide.

This was recorded using a "pop-up" or Marine Autonomous Recording Unit (MARU) by the Bioacoustics Research Program (BRP) of Ithaca, NY. Visit http://www.birds.cornell.edu/brp/ for more information about BRP and other acoustic research we are doing.

This track was recorded on the Silver Bank, Dominican Republic, during the Conscious Breath Adventures 2012 humpback whale season. Every season some 3,000-5,000 whales gather to court, mate and give birth, offering an excellent opportunity to see and here them. Conscious Breath Adventures holds a limited permit allowing us to take guests to swim with the whales, allowing us to literally immerse ourselves in the song. It is a bone-shaking experience.
