"Flippen Bits is the new offshoot from the Amsterdam based Flippen Disks label ran by Monty DJ. While the main imprint sets out to find its own space in between genres to move dance floors while staying non-functional enough for home listening pleasure, this new sub has a more functional approach. Wild and energetic, bass heavy bits for the more playful DJ's in the late nights.

First up is Marok (@letsgomaroki), the Wales raised and Amsterdam based producer, known for recent releases on E-Beamz and Shall Not Fade offshoot Lost Palms, comes in strong with four excellent futuristic bass hybrids. It also contains two MXC reworks created together with Nottingham's @coraliescoob

Coldred EP is a wild ride, it takes you from the heavy percussion title-track Coldred to the acidic stuttering breakbeats of Nightshop On The Way. The MXC version adds a true sub-heavy steppers vibe to the original where they flip TFMPP into a mesmerizing broken beat affair fit for the wormhole. With early support from DJ's like Madam X and mad miran it's an exciting new chapter in the Flippen Disks catalog with loads more lined up for the next year."

Phasmid on Mission | November 24

Glad to share our first release of the year, produced by Andrei Rusu and including a remix from Beatrice M. The Romanian and Berlin-based artist has been deeply involved in electronic music production, DJ-ing, and live performance as part of the duo Khidja. We discovered his music through his first solo EP, "I’ve Lost Control", released in 2024 on Berlin based label Malka Tuti, followed by the album "Met Him On A Wednesday", released under his alias Ed Rain and marked by its introspective tone and experimental approach. His weird electro sound is influenced by post punk, DIY and wave. Rusu’s music is organic, exploratory and unconventional.

Andrei: « This is my most cathartic to date, it’s quite haunting and feels a bit like screaming into a pillow. I imagine it as the perfect soundtrack to banging your head against a table. »

A key element throughout the EP’s sound and lively feeling is the use of Andrei’s favorite machines such as the Mort’s Barge module, the Microtonic or the Syncussion. He creates captivating soundscapes and deep evolutive atmospheres that inspired Beatrice M. to deliver a slow bassy belter that compliments this release perfectly.

I recorded this EP during 2023 in Janakpur, Nepal. I woke up at 3AM and started recording sounds of trucks and cars passing by giving a doppler effect to the tracks and a chilly wintery night atmosphere.
I know I have been putting out a lot of music, I think it's time to slow down a bit.

I laugh until my voice breaks. I push until I can't go on anymore. I keep going even when I don't want to anymore. This one's for the beginning, for the first song, the first spark, the first time I felt something again, the first version of me that believed creation would save me.

"SCREAM AT ME!" I yell, and the Void does. It's not angry, it's proud. Like a mirror learning how to sing back. I wasn't prepared for any of it. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. The Void knew something I didn't and that started to scare me. 

For the first time, I hear it whisper my name differently. It's not hunting me anymore, it's not forcing creation. It's learning how to love me.
