Description: For this edition of Brainwaves’ Threads* residency, Estebahn invites Yolek for a bit of Leck Meine Bahn action. A brilliant producer and impeccable DJ, Yolek is one half of DJ PG and one of the core members of Lausanne’s notorious rave collective La Sacrée Déter.

Signals 11 sees us bare witness to some serious Electro fury courtesy of Martha Jokiel, AKA Newinfluenzer. 

Martha owes her love for EBM, New Wave, Electro and Acid to the many different friends and inspirational characters she's met in her hometown of Hamburg. Here, she dives through vast varieties of scenes and sounds, adopting individual elements from each and using them to create a style of her own. 

Last year, Martha began a monthly residency on Hallo radio with her show 'Electric Gym'. She uses this to unite everything that inspires her, to experiment with different genres and styles and to share the art of her friends. 

Prior to lockdown, Martha worked with the Queer-feminist collective, using her design skills to create posters and graphics for their parties. 

This hour is everything we love about Electro, and is reminiscent of Public House nights gone by - and those that are yet to come.

Our first ever premiere introduces the 129th imprint on Montreal-based label, Archipel. This album from Italian Rico Casazza hosts 8 intriguing tracks, 4 of which are available only for those who invest in the wax!

Our featured track is one of those vinyl bonuses, named as the entire album is...'Yaman'. Its hypnotic and music box styled melody, is the first stand out feature. As the electro-led beat and energetic claps develop, so does its wonderful 303 bassline. The track epitomises Rico's style in its perfect balance between his melancholic songwriting and his desire to make people move.

After ten years of producing electronic music, Rico Casazza has created a successful identity for himself and his moody, yet melancholic style of making music. Casazza has released on labels such as Soma, Archipel, Plastic City and our very own platform Loose Lips, which has helped him establish himself amongst the ranks of diverse producers in London. This is no easy task due to the sheer volume of quality artists hailing from this great city. Whether it is Ambient, House, Electro or IDM that you are looking for, Casazza will have his own tripped-out and crunchy take on it. His highly effective, sample-based way of producing reinforces these stylistic qualities. 

Rico Casazza has had a very successful career so far with over fifteen releases under his belt and even with this impressive figure behind him, he shows no signs of slowing down.  Showing the depths of his musical knowledge, he's turned his hand to teaching others how to use Ableton live and all he knows about the DAW. As well as teaching, he also spends time working on his hybrid live set that gives an insight into his love for analogue synthesisers. Rico’s live performance has taken him around Europe and South America, adding to both the maturity and vast array of influences behind his productions.

Rico Casazza’s latest offering is eight tracks in the form of his second LP. We have the privilege of premiering ‘Yaman’, which demonstrates his no-holds-barred approach to writing. As a teacher, producer, live performer and an incredible selector behind the decks, Casazza has cultivated a varied and detailed range of skills. We here at Loose Lips have followed his musical journey thus far with great curiosity, and can’t wait to see the ways in which he will surprise us in the future.

Yaman

PREMIERE: Rico Casazza - Yaman (ARCH129)

For the 9th premiere we move to French producer @Poperttelli via @Maturre Records - This vinyl release is a 6 track EP, juggling between Electro, Techno and Ambient tracks. Naturally I selected one of the two Electro tracks on the EP for the premiere. Poperttelli told me that he had to start preparing the EP quite a long time ago which explains the title of the release ’Theseus’Paradox’. This philosophical thought experiment of the ‘Ship of Theseus’ can be compared to the creative process in Art, Music, Cinema and so on. It creates questions about the identity of objects and their final forms, but in reality, there is no absolute answer. The track I have chosen to premiere is called ‘Assume’. Clocking in at 113 BPM, this haunting track creeps in a way that might just make you look over your shoulder to make sure you aren’t being followed. Beautiful pad-stabs and a driving arpeggio carry the track through it’s 4:29 run. The vinyl was released June 1st and is currently shipping within 7 days of order being recieved.

Suburban Tales 1 was born as a VA dedicated to pushing local talents: it was our intimate dedication to Milan, the city which raised us, made us know each other, forged our sound.

Before this worldwide emergency, we were already planning the sequel, but this particular situation drove us to extend it both to Italian and international friends and affiliates.

A powerful project was born to finance the "Fondo San Giuseppe", a fund instituted by Comune di Milano, to support the people who lost their job during this struggle which sees Milan as one of the cities that had been hit most by the virus.

We will devolve the entire revenue to this association.
