"Doing a tribute mix to Luke Vibert and his multiple production pseudonyms is not a challenge I took lightly. His versatility is what drew me into electronic music in my youth and he has in my opinion one the most diverse bodies of work in recent electronic music history, through Moody Abstract Hip-Hop, Acid House, Disco, Drum & Bass and House. I wanted to do this mix because a lot of people might know Luke Vibert from one of his multiple personas without connecting the dots with the other projects. Big respect to Luke Vibert and all his split personalities."

It's safe to say that Desert Dwellers are the most OG desert DJs that we know. In fact, Treavor Moontribe was one of the founding members of Moontribe Collective, the original community of California desert dancers who've been gathering under the full moon since 1993. We owe a ton of our inspiration to Moontribe and we might even go so far to say there wouldn't be a Desert Hearts without our founding fathers of the desert scene.

While we've had Treavor Moontribe absolutely kill it for us in the past, it's his ultra psychedelic Desert Dwellers project with partner Amani Friend that really made international waves. Predominantly a downtempo project, we first heard about a super rare techno / tech house set performed by Desert Dwellers through our partner Kristoff. And he just wouldn't stop raving about it...

Honestly we had absolutely no idea what to expect from a techno set by Desert Dwellers other than the good word of one of our partners. Their set was the one true wildcard on our lineup and it ended up being one of the most radical sets of the weekend. With the first 1.5 hours of the set being all original material, Desert Dwellers pulled off one of the best sets we've ever heard at Desert Hearts.

With a heartfelt nod to those who paved the way for us, we hope you enjoy Live @ Desert Hearts- Desert Dwellers - 018 as much as we do. <3

Slated to release their eighth studio album, Desert Dwellers—consisting of Treavor Moontribe and Amani Friend—are sitting on an otherworldly 12-track offering. From their forthcoming LP, titled 'The Great Mystery,' the duo invites the listener on a profound, five-minute journey via “Bird Over Sand Dunes,” which features lush layers of intricately interconnected psy sounds. Spoken word interplays with serene vocalizations, while whizzing melodies drift across subtle basslines and sapid sub-bass growls. As always, Desert Dwellers makes complex compositions seem as simple as breathing.

[PREMIERE] Desert Dwellers - The Elephant's March [The Great Mystery 3/20 Black Swan Records]

I wrote this track quite a few years ago, but recently finished it with engineering help from the one and only Yuli Fershtat aka Perfect Stranger!!! It was mastered by the legendary Ido Ophir from Israel and I must say Im very happy with the final product! I've decided to give it away for free but will also eventually release it commercially as well. Enjoy!

Forged in the frozen food aisle and inspired by Sub-Zero’s grip, “Ice Cold” channels glacial 2-step and frosty low-end pressure built for tiled floors and security camera footage. Rumour has it this one was sculpted during a shift change behind the Eaton Centre’s food court, just steps from the Cinnabon. Sharp, slick, and deadly calm, it’s the sound of two producers plotting their mall gig breakthrough. Cold today, but something venomous is stirring just beyond the heat lamps.

Broken beats were on the breakfast menu for us out in the dust this August, and man did we indulge! I deeply appreciate the response the dancefloor has been having to breakbeats lately, so I felt compelled on this lineup to share some tunes I've been diggin' recently. This set has a bit more of a playful feel than I often present in my techno sets, I hope it tickles your nasty spots and makes you shake a lil sumpthin sumpthin. I did however, cut off the last 3 songs, and kept the recording from straying over into the techno waters ;)

This set of "wtf, why would you do that?", took place at dawn, inbetween the B-rad and the T.MT.

We start with Parker in hour 2 with his 'Behind the bookcase' mix. Bristol's very own beat n' bass head delivers music from Tipper, SPY and Julio Bashmore, alongside his own remixes of Bjork and Kate Bush. There's also an exclusive play of Parker's first single 'Nowhere to hide' on his own label Monkey Butler out next month. It's all cut and fused together with the finesse and quirky soundbites we've become accustomed to.
We close the show with Grahmzilla, the Toronto based producer behind various projects including Thunderheist on Big Dada, Bassanovva and Nautiluss on Hemlock Records. Music on offer includes Purity Ring, Zomby, Lunice and Rustie, closing with Araabmusik and Drake. Catch him playing tonight at The Red Light in Toronto.
