Brian Kersten Minnesota, born in Appleton, Wisconsin, and raised on a traditional farm, has dedicated his professional life to veterinary medicine, demonstrating a profound commitment to animal welfare and community service. This early agricultural upbringing nurtured his animal passion, steering him toward a fulfilling veterinary career. He pursued his education at the University of Minnesota, where he achieved a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with high distinction in 1977.

In 2021, recognizing a need for more accessible pet care, he founded Mercy Veterinary Service in Baldwin, Wisconsin. This clinic aims to provide low-cost veterinary services, ensuring that pet owners can afford essential care for their animals. His expertise spans small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry, through which he has built a reputation for compassion and excellence in his field.

He also contributes his skills as a relief veterinarian in Amery, Wisconsin, where he assists various veterinary practices. This role allows him to impact a broader spectrum of animal health within the community.

His veterinary career was officially launched after earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. His initial years were spent in a mixed animal practice in Burlington, Wisconsin, where he gained extensive experience. In 1985, he shifted focus to international development, spending 2.5 years in Haiti working on rural development and animal care projects, illustrating his dedication to global issues and veterinary medicine.

Upon his return to the U.S. in 1987, he settled in Baldwin, Wisconsin, where he eventually purchased a veterinary practice in 2001. He led the practice until 2003, also serving as President of the Pierce St. Croix Humane Society. Although he sold his practice in 2016, his commitment to veterinary service did not end; it evolved into founding the low-cost clinic in 2021.

Outside of his clinical responsibilities, he is passionately involved in philanthropy. He volunteers at Today's Harvest Food Shelf, helping to address local food insecurity, and supports global initiatives through Mercy Corps. Additionally, he provides voluntary veterinary services at Barefoot Crow Animal Rescue, aiding in rescuing and rehabilitating rescued animals.

In his personal life, he is married with four grown children and enjoys numerous hobbies that reflect his interests and values, including playing the guitar, gardening, reading, and staying active. These activities underscore his commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.

As 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of his graduation from veterinary school, Brian Kersten Minnesota's journey from a farm boy in Appleton to an esteemed veterinarian and active community member is a narrative of lifelong dedication and service.
