Danny McMillan is a true original in the very early Nu Skool Breaks scene, one half of the duo Uptown Connection and label boss of the now defunct Inflight Entertainment. Danny McMillan’s resume is also stacked with everything any dance music artist could ever wish for: remixing tracks from New Order to DJ Krush, kick-starting labels like Rennie Pilgrem’s big-time TCR, collaborations with Arthur Baker, radio shows on UK’s Kiss FM, residencies at London’s Ministry of Sound to compilations hailed as one of the best by Mixmag and Muzik.

This mix was aired in 1999 on the Kiss 100FM Breakbeat Show hosted by Adam Freeland.

In the first hour, we had some pretty eclectic new tracks. From slow beats to faster ones, from newcomers to stars... It's great to see how many forms the broken scene takes.
In the second hour, special guest DJ Ottoman came on. He's a real pioneer of breakbeat in the Czech Republic. In the mid 90s he founded (with Mr. Cucumber) the big beat project The Tchendos with whom he released the now cult vinyl Ajtakrajta (1997). During the interview (which also featured a secret guest DJ Voita) we played some samples of The Tchendos' early production and then DJ Ottoman played a short set from his old breakbeat records.

This time I was alone in the studio (Saku) and I don't know why, I figured I would mix from CD players. So I was constantly switching between the broadcast desk and microphone and the players that are on the other side of the studio. I wanted it to be a really live broadcast and it really was. The whole episode was set up as an invitation to the Povaleč festival, but I used new tracks for it (that's why it's not a classic dj mix). The first hour was calm (not only, I also played three tracks from the great producer Adam BFD, who has a new album out), tracks that are played during the day, in the second it's classic dancefloor stuff. For the first half of the Breakbeat Conference show we have selected new tracks that are deep and groovy and contrast nicely with the second hour of the show. 
The Tchendos come to our studio! This band celebrates 25 years this year and they are one of the pioneers of breakbeat/big beat music in the Czech Republic. We admit that the interview is more for Czech-speaking listeners, but believe us, it was fun.The anniversary concert will take place at Lucerna Music Bar on November 13th and will feature several new songs by The Tchendos. As well as the old hits. Of course, there will also be strong comments on current politics and social atmosphere. After an interview with the band, one of the members - Wokurka played a set full of funky breaks!

Most people will remember Freq Nasty (aka Darin McFayden) as the man with the long dreadlocks. Originally from New Zealand Freq Nasty made a name for himself in the early era of the popular Nu Skool Breaks scene developing his own unique style of music as a producer and DJ using a selection of very underground tunes in his mixes. This mix from January 2000 was recorded LIVE at the Triple J Radio studios in Australia.
