"Ok, lets go into the studio and just write a fast, funky, signature tune" was the brief for this track. And sure enough, kicking in with the 100mph hi-hat and bongo groove, heavy on the Hammond and Clav, and with it's instantly recognizable guitar riff you know we're on The Getup's home turf. Recorded live in the studio straight to tape, this clearly shows the band have been playing together for enough years to be
able to nail a tune like this, but still fuel it with the energy and excitement of a band that are just discovering themselves. And 'Straight From The Hob' is an apt title - with it's hot analogue production and not a single computer involved it's like the difference between micro-waved baked beans and those, well, straight from the hob. There's no comparison.

THE GETUP - Straight From The Hob

Kaza slows it down on this one and enlists the help of Finnish singer Tuomo to produce a top notch modern soul gem. Tuomo is a singer, jazz pianist, composer, lyricist and producer with numerous jazz, retro and northern albums under his belt. He hooks up with Kaza to give us a track that could have been a b-side nugget on a rare soul 45 that got lost in a strange warehouse in Delaware. But it aint, this is 2012 and this is still raw as hell.

Tropical heavyweight and Bastard Jazz signing Captain Planet give his own unique take on the track. Taking all the essential elements of the original and re-working them into something entirely new, it’s a remix that does everything a remix should whilst remaining full of surprises. Lifting the characteristic vocals and guitars of its a-side counterpart and placing them against downtempo boogaloo percussion, a warm double bass b-line, quirky whistles and subtle organs, the track opens at a deceptively laid back pace. One of the Captain’s trademark breakdowns leads to a dramatic shift of pace introducing a punchy double time drum track that is drum & bass and boogaloo in equal parts. As soon as that guitar kicks in on the A side we know we're on The Getup's high energy home turf and, sure enough, what follows is a three and half minute 100mph horn laden ride thru Hammond Funk Mayhem. Sabina’s vocals take the track into that female funk territory that keeps all the girls on the dancefloor.

This is a nod to early 80’s hip hop cut n paste production,  a dirtier mix for the funk heads. Stephen Fleg aka DJ Fleg is a DJ, Bboy and producer from Maryland, U.S.A. His constant digging for new sounds in every genre allow Fleg’s style to incorporate old classics, new productions, jazz, funk, rock and soul all into one cohesive DJ stew. In addition to DJing, he also throws Baltimore’s most noted party, “4 Hours of Funk”. This is a masterful piece of b-boy magic. Arranged and produced like a funk track from the 70’s, this is not your straight looped beats for the average b-boy. This builds and grooves in a way that only a dancer would know about. K. Sabroso began his musical journey on the dance floor, studying the science of beats and breaks while earning his stripes as a b-boy. In 2009 Sandoval decided to focus his attention on music, both as a DJ and producer. Breakin' Bread is a Funk & Hip Hop Collective, based in South London. The Collective runs a Record Label, Clubnight and various Radio Shows. The Record Label has been active since 1999 and specialises in the funk and hip hop that surrounds the scene. With B-Boying, Turntablism, MCing and Graffiti, the Clubnight is funk fuelled mayhem.
