Lamine is a famous bboy from France. He was asking me about doing a mix for his Redbull event and while looking through some vinyl for the mix, I found a sample and made this track, so the name stuck. Afro and Latin percussion ​maestro Sam Debell, aka People’s Rhythm, also from the UK, but living in China added the killer percussion.

The Getup are more than your average Hammond Funk outfit and this track proves it. A bubbling bass line kicks the track into a killer up tempo funk groove, having you reaching for the volume knob to crank it up as the first verse bursts out.  The track takes on a whole new dimension as the chorus reveals a four-on-the-floor solid dance groove, with Jamiroqui-esque tasty chord changes, and then the horns stab us back into the next verse.  A percussive, reverberant Hammond solo takes us into a drum break that is DJ and sampler's heaven, before the tunes rounds out with a double chorus and ends on more punchy stabs……. a midtempo vocal workout showcasing the sheer musicality of the band…….funk of the highest order!

The Getup - What If? 2 45

This 12-minute ‘Battle Suite’, composed and arranged by The Souljazz Orchestra, was commissioned by the House of PainT Festival for its 10th anniversary Main EvenT. 

The piece was performed and recorded live during the Bboy Battle Final on September 14th, 2013. Mixed and mastered at Metropolitan Studios.

The Souljazz Orchestra Battle Suite

Back in September 2007, Freestyle Records released ´Black Feeling´ an album project brought to life by Australian musical supremo Lance Ferguson (The Bamboos, Cookin´ On 3 Burners, Lanu) 

Each track was presented under a pseudonym to give the impression of an album you would find whilst digging in a Caribbean record shop or American thrift store. As a collection of reworked classics, the album set dance floors alight across the world, indeed, the single ´Hippy Skippy Moon Strut´ by The Mighty Show-Stoppers became a huge selling 12 inch, and also notched up well over 350,000 individual viewings on You Tube to date!

Now in 2011, Freestyle Records is pleased as punch to be releasing this teaser 45 single that features 2 cuts from the forthcoming follow up album ´Black Feeling: Volume Two´ (FSRCD/LP090) and what total corkers they are too!

The A side is Lance & Co´s fantastic reworking of the anthemic ´Burning Spear´ under the moniker of The Poly-Tones, an intense and driving piece of soulful funk, and what could possibly equal that for the flip side? The Mighty Show-Stoppers giving Johnnie Pate´s blaxploitation soundtrack classic ´Shaft In Africa´ such a convincing and wonderful re-working, you will think you are back in time, on the film set whilst Richard Roundtree (that's John Shaft to you sucker!) kicks some serious ass!

This 7“ is a total must-have for the summer of 2012 but versatile enough to lift those rainy days that need some brightening up!
