Juno Download Review: Review: As always with the Big Fat Mama Beats crew, the vibes are plentiful with their latest release drop, which sees the one they call Leygo return with four tracks packed with pure fire across the first edition of 'Shake N Break'. We begin with the ghoulish vocal sampling and scattered breakbeat drum designs of 'Get It Tonight', followed closely by the more funk influenced vocal lines and tearout reese basses of 'Music'. From here we galavant into the sharpened synthesizer writhings and chomping percussion of 'Rock Me Baby', before rounding off with 'Vital Signs', a blissful exploration into nostalgic keys and grizzly drum scatters!

Despite the troubles globally faced in 2020, it’s safe to say that The Allergies bucked the trend and came back by ultimately having a rather glorious year. Releasing their fourth studio album, achieving the ‘A List’ on BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio Eins in Berlin, climbing high in the NACC US college charts, and generally receiving critical acclaim from a world that had an understandable appetite for some joyful and fun music in their lives.

2021 shows no signs of things slowing down. The heat continues for their 2020 album Say The Word with Pioneer, Liptons and IAMS all taking Allergies tracks for their global advertising campaigns. Rather than rest on their laurels, though, the guys went full lockdown creative and have their fifth album due for release in September, 2021.

“Jumping Off” was the first new track from the album to be debuted at the end of 2020 – A self-sampling version of their 2018 track “Main Event”. As with all Allergies tracks of late, the limited 7” release caused a Discogs feeding frenzy.

Now, The Allergies power forward with the first single of the 2021 album campaign – An absolute dancefloor destroyer featuring legend of the mic, Dynamite MC, entitled “Lean On You”.

The Allergies first hooked up with Dyna on previous album Say The Word for the fan favour-ite “Hot Sensation”. But, scheduling clashes with Dynamite’s own album release meant that a single outing for that track was not possible.

No such issues this time round means The Allergies kick off their 2021 album with a serious club and radio contender to move things to the next level.

It’s a stylistic new lane for the Bristol-based beatmakers. Their trademark heavy drum chops now flowing on half time tempos, with blues guitars riffs front and centre. The perfect back-ing, then, for the UK rap legend to find his theme and raise the roof.

The 7” is backed by “Working On Me” – A classic Allergies-style screamer with a taste of funky swamp rock, updated for your favourite dancefloor/kitchen/outside space, with five other people…

Advent day number 8 has rolled around so who fancies a Christmas fiddle? No no no, not that kind of fiddle ya mucky buggers! We're talking the kind of fiddle played by someone with a bow in a jolly way and that's just what, Mr Rich and The Caretaker, have with their exclusive Crimbo freebie for us. The guys who we discovered earlier this year are both fine purveyors of the funky Breaks sound and their reworking of 'Yellow Belly' by, B-Star, carries all the hall marks of being yet another class piece of work to add to their already impressive back catalogue! Without wanting to sound like I'm 84, this is a proper 'catchy' tune so swig down your Ale's, roll up your sleeves and jig all the way to Christmas with 'Dj And A Fiddle'!

Advent Day #8: Mr Rich and The Caretaker - Dj And A Fiddle

An absolute pleasure to remix Afro Cluster, their original track combined elements of Afro, Funk, Hiphop and Disco with lovely soulful vocals from Helena May and a gangster (but good vibes) MC flow from mr Skunkadelic.

My remix takes all these styles in but also throws in some b-boys breaks and extra jazzy percussion to make this genre-spanning banger!  This was in the pipeline being tweaked since last summer and a key part of my sets, Hope you dig it as much as I did making it.

Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is thrilled to welcome back Roast Beatz to follow up on his successful album release Luxury Boom Bap from 2015. BBP and Roast Beatz has hand-picked some of the very best in the scene to make a Remix EP that are worthy of the Luxury Boom Bap brand.

The Allergies get things started with their retro funk twist on the 1988 jam featuring Koaste. The Allergies (Dj Moneyshot & Reckabeat) is known to reshape funky vintage sounds for the modern dancefloor and that’s exactly what they do on this remix! 

Shake Loves You takes on the awesome Pour Me feat. Mysdiggi and effortless turns it into their own funky disco style. The tune has undergone a huge transformation but the result is no less than: pure dancefloor dynamite.

El Bomba was a perfect match for this project as he never disappoints on the steady rockin’ b-boy bangers. The Ultimate feat. Manic and Kristy Kuwolski receives the signature Bomba treatment and yep you guessed it – it’s a banger!

Last but certainly not least we called upon one of our favorite producers and reggae riddim expects DJ Maars from down under. One of the pearls of the album Heavy Ear Play featuring the mighty Action Bronson, Jehst Brotherman and Stig of the dump – fits perfectly on a gentle riddim by DJ Maars.
