This Contest was sponsored by Ableton, BPM College for sound engineering & production, and Digital Structures, and we were so surprised to get so many awesome works from amateurs to pro producers… The amount of good stuff we heard from the 160 remixes was quite astonishing. The original plan was to release a single with 2 or 3 tracks… But the reality was a bit different. So we slightly bent the competition rules..

And decided to make a compilation, to showcase all the talent we found in there. The works vary from Electronica through Glitch Hop to Minimal and more driving Techno.

Thirteen years ago the Nurture label released upekah, the one and only single to come under the son.sine alias. It’s an alias of a New Zealander who released only a select few EPs under different monikers, and one that sounds as good today as it did back then given all its dub infused techno glory. It’s always been hard to come buy but now Delsin are remastering and rereleasing it into the world once more.

First up is the title track, a double deep track of spacious, gently pulsing dub that initially revels in blissfully ambient swirls before growing a touch more edgy and metallic in the latter half thanks to some panning steel stabs.

On the flip, 'karuna' is just as deep and cavernous. Filling the huge chambers of echo and reverb are more ambient patterns, subtle beams of light and an ever churning, grainy dub undercurrent. Lastly, 'Mudita' is more propulsive and up right, with hunched drums rotating below and rueful ambient drones up top. Classy business indeed from the New Zealander.

2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

Coming from the heart of Bosnia, Solomun is a passionate DJ who certainly knows how to please a crowd and keep the energy on the floor. Equally as talented and creative in the studio, he has many releases to his name on his own label Diynamic, as well as other imprints such as Four:Twenty, liebe*detail and Dessous recordings. Made for the dancefloor, his productions always have an element of funk or surprise, reminding people of the fun that's there to be had with music. As a label with many close ties to mobilee records, Diynamic will be co-hosting a party at mobilee's Sonar 2010 celebrations, which makes it even more fitting that this release brings the two forces more closely together.

Solomun's next big bang, being brought to you via Leena music, is a sure extension of his impeccable production skills and style, and is also one of the most unique releases you will here on the label so far. A-side 'Sisi' opens with a head-spinning explosion of notes and chords, being fired out like sparks in a continual loop. Then half way through the record, they dramatically stop, only to soon build up again and set the roller coaster off once more. B-side 'Talk To The Hand' is a bass-heavy and punchy track, that surprises you with euphoric piano chords in the second half, whilst B2 'Curesto' brings all of the elements together with piano chords, build-ups and some drama. Goa-based Breger is not one to sit still. As the owner of @Kafka-Tempo and co-founder of @Copycow and @Beatplantation Festival in Germany, he has spent 20 years supporting underground culture. His music has appeared on labels like Zenon and Soupherb, with standout releases including Hippies in Danger. With three LPs and hundreds of tracks, he moves between minimal and raw techno, always carrying a dark and groovy edge. His love for psychedelic elements is evident in his productions and continues to inspire.

In his sets, Breger keeps things unpredictable, blending improvised sounds and samples to break away from repetition. He shifts freely between live and DJ sets, flowing with the moment. With a busy summer of gigs ahead, his winter months will be spent in residency with the beach collective @VortexGoa.
