i live/work by a huge military base, you never know what kind of war sounds are going to pop in
you otherwise mostly peaceful forest life
machine guns are a favorite, but droning mystery hums,  bombs sounds, and aircraft noise have staring roles. the best is TAPS at night 10 pm, a bugle thing in the morning 6 am (hard to hear over traffic sounds), and sometime meal time bugles.

when your otherwise peaceful life is punctuated by sounds from military practice

This is the 15th poem by my Grandad that is now presented musically. Bill wrote this one just before his brother died and wrote it from his brothers perspective. Here's to anyone who misses a loved one. Much love

Broken Wing

My thoughts take wing and carry me home
To my nest and haven of love,
On patients' cloud of hope I roam
In the arms of my friendly dove.

My horizon lost in this sea of pain
I fall to the valley of gloom
My thoughts awake, then I suffer again
In the silence of this tomb.

Friends' welcome smile, each hopeful test,
Life me up on my wings of health
With my love I bear, this ordeal of rest,
Their love this chalice will melt.

I long for the hour, my house, my length,
Rests with those I love best.
Please God now give me the added strenght
To fly back to my homely nest.
