With over 25 years of experience as a DJ, and 15 years producing electronic music fused with indigenous rhythms and organic percussions, Sabo and his label Sol Selectas need no introduction. In November of 2020 Sabo released his 3rd studio album “Buddy System”, a collaborative effort with several producer friends from around the Globe. The album topped the charts and continues to move dance floors around the World. Sol Selectas now presents the “Buddy System Remixes” album, featuring 10 re-interpretations by some of today’s leading producers, both legendary, and up-and-coming.

Dj T. from Berlin, leads off with a powerful remix of “Daikato”, transforming the original downtempo version into a peak time frenzy of psychedelic synths and a groovy baseline which drive the tune.  

Dj Chus of the infamous duo Chus & Ceballos, and the legendary Stereo Records label, takes “Bakhu” and injects his own tribal flavor to create an Iberican drum workout. 

Laroz and T-Puse from Israel, and Mula (FR) of France, both rework the song “Celebration Santoor” which features the incredible Persian musician Bahramji. Laroz and T-Puse take the track into Afro tech direction, while Mula (FR) pitches things to mid-range deep house, with his dubby and heady interpretation. 

For the song “Imagine” we also have two new versions.  Inigo Vontier of Mexico warps the original into a trippy, indie dance excursion, chopping up the vocals, and weaving the plucked string instruments of the original with swirling synths and arpeggios. Abel Ray, a new producer from Morocco, elevates the vocals of Basel Khoury on his version of “Imagine”, and creates an emotional build up of synths and leads, resulting in an epic build explosion of groove. 

Turkish duo Derun, dear friends of the label, immediately requested to put their spin on “Duende” when they first heard Sabo play it. Known for their chunky tribal drums, and epic crescendos, Derun deliver a fresh energetic take on the original, which highlights the beautiful Greek guitar.  

Israeli Guy Mayaan gives “Min Q” his minimal cosmic flavor, adding disco congas, and happy synth stabs that will surely awaken the dance floor’s 3rd eye. 

Russian producer Zuma Dionys, expertly remixes the track “Red Lotus” in his signature down tempo style, with a high energy but low BPM excursion, perfect for those transcendental sunrise moments. 

And finally for the track “Fainá”, German producer Nutia delivers a gorgeously deep and dubby downbeat remix,  which feels like a magical dreamscape submerged in the ocean. 

Helia Jamali re-imagines her own artwork by brightening up the original, and shining a light on the diversity of this incredible release.

This vocals on this song were recorded in a small studio on the side of the road in Negrille Jamaica, while Sabo was visiting Jamaica and DJing at the Tmrw Tday Festival. Sabo was referred to this studio by his Rasta taxi driver Ricardo, and on the first visit, after waiting a half hour for theengineere to show up,  he was told, “Come Back Round Tomorrow and play da riddims Fah mi singer” 
When Sabo returned the next day he met the beautiful smiling Steffy Biz, and in just 2 takes she laid down the vocals for Pun Pun Technician. Loving to work on music in collaboration with others, Sabo reached out to an old friend. Having remembered some of the ground breaking fusion tracks Makossa & Megablast released in the mid 2000’s on G-Stone records, which combined international rappers and singers over electronic tribal beats, he knew Megablast would be into the idea of re-igniting a “ragga dancehall” influence into modern house music. Megablast took Sabo’s idea and went even farther into electronic cosmic sounds, reworking the original 4 on the floor groove into a Uptempo dancehall breakbeat rhythm in the spirit of the “Coolie Dance Riddim” with an organic tribal flare.

Sol Selectas celebrates it’s 100th release, with a single by label head Sabo, and featuring a remix by Hyenah. 

The song “Bomeno” takes it name from the Ewé religion of the African country Togo, and represents “the mother of Bomé”, which is the sacred land where all people are believed to come from, and return to.  This afro house tune is inspired by a thumb piano rhythm accompanied by a catchy vocal hook from Togo. The deep bassline bounces the tune along with sharp percussion, electronic synth stabs, and electric guitar swells played by Billy Mendrix. 

For the remix we welcome afro house legend Hyenah from Berlin. Hyenah plays with the vocals and thumb piano groove, adding their signature afro tech sounds. 

The artwork by Helia Jamali shows the vast land of Bomé, with its divine mother Bomeno, meditating peacefully on the horizon.
