The 85 decibel Monk sound was built on the traditions of mid-90’s instrumental Hip-Hop. It’s a 2025 modification of 60’s be-bop jazz, 70’s funk, and a touch of Samba. The mixture has various sub-genre descriptions. "Boom-Bap" - "Trip-Hop" - "Instrumental Beats"  

The diverse instruments, uncommon tones and textures vibrating through the speakers might make the music categories difficult to sum up in one broad stroke, but a couple of factors become very clear upon inspection. Quality production values condensed in a tight presentation with a touch of analog grit. 

Formed in 2001 by producer Tack-Fu along with a circle of trusted local musicians,  jazz educators, DJ's and audio technicians...the music collective released a compilation CD  "Tack-Fu Presents: The 85 decibel Monks" in 2005 ....which featured DJ Vadim....(and is available on all digital streaming platforms) 

The 85 dB Monk emphasis on "less is more" raw & mono mixed production style bumping from the speakers....caught the attention of several music libraries - and from 2007 to 2024...more that 500 music cue placements.
