When record store owner Jeff Bubeck buys an old record collection out of an abandoned storage unit, he has no idea what he’s stumbled across. Jeff learns the collection once belonged to the late great J Dilla, one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time. Along with the thousands of LP’s from Dilla’s personal collection, there is something else that is uncovered, something huge. . .

I really want to give another BIG thank you to Leonard Lacsamana (Co-President) of Poly Founders (A multi-disciplinary organization for entrepreneurs) based at Cal Poly Pomona for having me. I am very humbled by those who attended and listened to what I had to say. This was my first time speaking about Soulection and my journey to a public audience and as a special guest. 

I really went as deep as I could within an hour and 26 minute session about my story and how Soulection was founded with Guillaume Bonte (96) and I back in January 2011 and how we brought on Andre Power afterwards. I talked about the pre-history of Soulection and touched on topics such as passion, the music industry today, my personal life, adversity, technology, social media, analytics, and more. I hope you can gain something from listening to me. This isn't about me flaunting my story or being self-indulgent. I am humble and many people have requested for me to upload this audio recording because people want to know the story. I look forward to doing more of these kind of speeches on a larger scale in the near future. Until then enjoy and thank you for your support.

Ben Schott was born in North London in 1974. He was educated at University College School, Hampstead, and Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, where he read Social and Political Sciences. He graduated in 1996, taking a double First. After an astonishingly brief "career" at the advertising agency J. Walter Thompson, Ben spent most of his twenties as a freelance portrait photographer for a diverse range of editorial and commercial clients. As a photographer, Ben worked with The Independent, The Times, The Sunday Times, Reader’s Digest, and Sunday Business, among many others, and has photographed a wealth of celebrities from Hugh Grant and Tony Blair, to Gordon Brown and Enoch Powell. In 2002, Ben turned a Christmas card into his first book—Schott’s Original Miscellany—which within weeks was a bestseller. He has subsequently published a series of Miscellanies and Almanacs which have sold some 2.5 million copies, and have been translated into twenty-one languages. As a journalist, Ben has worked with many of the great British titles; he now writes for the Times of London and the New York Times.

Artist and designer, Kelli Anderson, is a New Orleans native, who now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Kelli draws, photographs, cuts, prints, codes, and designs a variety of things for herself and others. From interactive paper to layered, experimental websites, everything is done in her studio, which houses a 1919 letterpress! Anderson was the digital collections photographer at the American Museum of Natural History, but stepped down to pursue her own artistic work. She is the recipient of the Ars Electronica Prix Award of Distinction. Kelli also teaches art history at Pratt, where she attended graduate school.
