‘Mischief’ specialising in funky house is a partnership between Rod Layman and David Rees. The duo have released a number of tracks over the last decade not only as ‘Mischief’, but also as ‘Moonbase’ and ‘One’. Their best known track to date is a cheeky little INXS V Love Tribe number ‘Put Your Hands Together’. This is currently available for free on their SoundCloud page. Over the years they have received support from Tall Paul, Boy George, Mike Gray, Tim Lennox, Danny Slade, Phats & Small, Greg Stainer, Brandon Block, DJ Magazine, NME and IDJ, to name just a few.

Rod has been involved in remixing, production, engineering and DJ'ing for more than twenty years. His career started as a DJ for John Digweed at early Bedrock & Storm parties on the South coast. In 1990 he joined DMC where he remains to this day. Over this period Rod has produced more than 250 mixes and remixes for their DJ service plus a megamix for Anastacia's Greatest Hits album. At DMC’s peak Rod was an in-house engineer working with the likes of Dave Seaman & Steve Anderson (Brothers in Rhythm), Nick Hussey, Chris & James, Jerry Boutier, Delorme and Joey M.

Aside from DMC Rod has produced, engineered and collaborated on tracks with Michael Gray, Ashley Casselle, Jason Elliott, Chris & James and Power Angel with releases on labels including Manifesto, Ministry of Sound, Guerrilla, Confusion, Brute, Stress, Sony, Universal, EMI and BMG.

David’s musical roots also lead back to the 80’s hip hop electro and early house scenes. It wasn’t however until 1996 that David was able to focus his energies fully into music. Since then he has DJ'ed up & down the UK and overseas playing house, club classics and trance. Highlights have included gigs in South Africa, USA & Madeira with sets for Cream, Ministry of Sound, Turnmills, Pukka Up and Escape in the Park plus a number of residencies in Brighton and London, most notably at The Honeyclub, Brighton. During his career David has DJ’ed alongside many of the leading figures including Danny Rampling, Anthony Pappa, and Matt Darey. Additionally he has received recognition for his DJ’ing abilities winning the progressive category of Guy Ornadel’s ‘Future Talent’ Competition (which was run in association with Ministry of Sound), being a runner up in IDJ Magazines Readers Mix Tapes and featuring on “DJ’s Complete Guide” DVD.

David has also promoted club nights, judged ‘DMC’ mixing championship heats, been director of a collective and worked for John Digweed, which usually resulted in driving to the airport and back! 

In the studio aside from collaborations with Rod, David has co-produced a number of tracks as ‘Rees & Mead’ and ‘Thought of One’. These have appeared on Kickin Music, Celestial Records, Adjust Recordings, New Sound 2000 and Soulstorm.

After a few years hiatus 'Mischief' returned in the fall of 2010 with new tracks and their own label ‘Mischief Digital’.
