Mushroom Jazz 24 - Mark Farina

For the past two years, I’ve curated playlists of my favorite UK Garage and related genres, discovering fresh sounds that inspired me to create Nova. I wanted a seamless mix of these tracks to enjoy without skipping around throughout Spotify, and I believe mixed music has a unique power to captivate.
 
Nova took a year to complete and is the most work I’ve ever put into a mix. Many tracks lacked DJ-friendly intros and outros, but recent AI advancements allowed me to break them into stems, remix, and edit them for the intentional transitions featured in this mix.

Roman - Rising Of The Sun (Original Mix)

Matthias Vogt is a German musician, DJ, and producer whose work seamlessly bridges jazz sophistication with electronic innovation. Born in Rüsselsheim in 1970, Vogt trained as a jazz pianist before venturing into club culture, eventually co-founding the deep house duo Motorcitysoul and the jazz collective [re:jazz]. Over three decades, he has become a versatile force-releasing music that spans deep house, ambient, IDM, and broken beat, always infused with his improvisational touch and love for organic sound.

His solo career has flourished with standout projects like Polytonality (Polytone), the politically charged Pianissimo (Infracom!), and Ten As One (Reflections/Anjunadeep), featuring collaborators such as Hans Berg, Johanna Klein, and Sato. In 2025, his Lost EP on Moodmusic showcased both soulful vocal work with Fola Dada and nods to his Frankfurt club roots.

A regular at iconic venues from Cocoon Club to Tresor and Blue Note Tokyo, Vogt has toured extensively across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. Whether performing live with a band or behind the decks, his sets and productions carry an unmistakable warmth-rooted in musicality, informed by jazz discipline, and driven by a curiosity that refuses to be confined by genre.

Vogt’s enduring appeal lies in his ability to create music that feels timeless yet current, sophisticated yet dance-floor ready-a rare balance that continues to inspire listeners worldwide.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

Essential Mix 1997-01-12 - Doc Martin

Tampa Bay native and a DJ since the 90’s, Brian Busto has worked for the last 30 years to keep the flames of the underground alive for the most Serious of Souls in the Tampa Bay area. Since he fell in love with dance music on one fateful night at SIMONS over three decades ago, Brian has never looked back. Busto first started DJing in 1994 with his first residency coming a year later at Beanjuice. A queer run late night haven for the house heads, ravers and weirdos of the Tampa Bay area. From Beanjuice, Busto went on to earn his first residency at The Castle courtyard in 1996 along with starting his second afterhours in 1997, Silver Meteor. From there Brian Busto went on to curate legendary nights in revered Tampa venues such as Rain Lounge, Malios, Bahassa, Ceviche, Hyde Park Cafe, Iberian Rooster, and The Castle. Wherever the location, Busto remains on the front lines, pushing cutting edge new music, ignoring trends, and always staying true to his roots. 

Brian Busto is a genre-defying DJ that loves to dig. You’re always going to get something unique, from tough cutz loaded with swagger to hypnotic rhythms that lift you right off the floor. Sounds from stateside meccas Detroit and Chicago as well as overseas Italo and Balearic flavors provide pleasant twists and turns throughout his sets. Uniting it all, in his own words - “I always play deep.”
