If you don't like house with vocals swipe left lol.  This set for House Music Fridays so my musical direction was clear.  So again, if you don't like my vocals you can kiss my *ss-  just kidding you can check back for my Studio Mix at the end of March which will be minimal techno with a side of breaks :)

Big thanks to Matthew Brian for having me at House Music Fridays which was a super vibing night.   

A note on technique.  Vocal tracks are tricky and often have a lot of melody on top of the vocals so not the easiest to mix together.  For that reason, and others I made two playlists and alternated between more vocal, melodic tracks, and are stripped-down mixing tracks (some of these also have vocals). This creates the effect of coming out of vocals kind of bumping, then back into vocals which I personally love.

Before we go any further all of us at Frequency Underground would like to thank all our supporters and artists who's helped get the show this far! Moving back to the mix, we couldn't have had a better guest to celebrate the occation that Tampa native, Brian Busto! He's put together a seamless mix of deep house, hypnotic acid, soulful Chicago tracks and plenty more twists to keep you captivated on the two hour journey. ◾How did you come up with your dj name (or why did you use your actual name): Friends usually call me by my last name and being that I’m a Tampa native I thought it was a good choice. 

◾How and when did you get into djing: Went to my first house night in 1991 called Aahz at the Beacham Theater in Orlando Florida. Took me some time to go from observer to participant but I would say the night that changed my life was in 1993 at the legendary Simons in Gainesville Florida. Took E for the first time on a dancefloor and was taken to the house music promised land. The lineup was Laurent Garnier, DJ Three and DJ Chang. I was one of three others that stayed til the last song. A year later I bought my first pair of 1200s with a radio shack mixer. DJ Three went with me on the purchase and helped me get set up. The next day DJ Matty came over to show me the ropes. The start of an incredible journey had begun being a dj/promoter for close to 30 years now. Out of the 30 years ive been professional for about 23 of them including currently. Underground music only!

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: As for DJ influences go that’s an easy one. DJ Three, Doc Martin, Derrick May, Derrick Carter, Danny T, and Laurent Garnier. 

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: Well I’m not a genre dj so describing my sound is like describing my mood. It really depends on how I’m feeling and the room I’m playing for. I try my best to not be predictable. 
What’s consistent is the style in which I play. First and foremost for me are long mixes, smooth transitions and track selection. I keep the effects to a minimal and let the music do the talking. 

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: A vinyl night with good friends, more gigs to travel to, more events in my hometown, and more mixes to make.

So, for my Bday / Thanksgiving 2023 mix i decided to pull some tracks from my classics folder that have provided me great dancefloor memories both at the club and the afterhours. They range from the early 90s to 2009 with some heavy plays during the Simons era and beyond. I included some vinyl rips which give it a bit of a raw feel throughout and a heavy dose of beat mixing so hope you enjoy it.

Tampa Bay native and a DJ since the 90’s, Brian Busto has worked for the last 30 years to keep the flames of the underground alive for the most Serious of Souls in the Tampa Bay area. Since he fell in love with dance music on one fateful night at SIMONS over three decades ago, Brian has never looked back. Busto first started DJing in 1994 with his first residency coming a year later at Beanjuice. A queer run late night haven for the house heads, ravers and weirdos of the Tampa Bay area. From Beanjuice, Busto went on to earn his first residency at The Castle courtyard in 1996 along with starting his second afterhours in 1997, Silver Meteor. From there Brian Busto went on to curate legendary nights in revered Tampa venues such as Rain Lounge, Malios, Bahassa, Ceviche, Hyde Park Cafe, Iberian Rooster, and The Castle. Wherever the location, Busto remains on the front lines, pushing cutting edge new music, ignoring trends, and always staying true to his roots.
