Ninja 2.0! We removed the weapon and fighting-inspired influences from the original composition, and gave it a more Tai Chi flavor. As human beings, We are in a constant state of flux, trying to find balance. This is show is about the eternal struggle between the Yin and the Yang. With an updated soundscape and some fresh beats, this show is both excited and has some great moments of purity that will envelope the audience like a warm blanket.

Note: Due tot the fact that the and Ninja are in many ways the same show, both cannot be licensed for the same competition schedule.

This production at its very essence is about the idea of being in a world where conformity and being societal clones are commonplace. Sometimes it takes the introduction of something different—in this case an antagonist in the form of a flower wielding individual. The struggle between conformity and individuality are the forefront elements. Beyond the Clouds (Jim Casella)

Cyclone is an ambitious piece by Jim Casella, was written to feature a quartet of marimba players who play on two marimbas that face each other. The parts are all playable with two mallets, and players are frequently called on to reach across to the marimba opposite them. Also, marimbists embark on a literal "cyclone" around the instruments, swapping physical positions with one another and running around the instruments towards the inevitable swirling climax.

Inspired by true accounts of a friend's recent expedition of Mt. Everest, this quartet is accompanied by seven multipercussionists and piano. It depicts both determination and danger, with an implied circular motion by way of quick, repetitive, six-note figures. Complete with echo effects of grandeur and spaciousness, Cyclone is an energetic, cinematic work that becomes relentless and violent. The faint of heart need not apply!

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, when asked, “What is the most astounding fact you can share with us about the universe?” gave a most astounding answer. Recognizing that we are made of the same elements that swirled around from the beginning of the universe, Tyson feels a deep connection to all that is out there. Using the text from Tyson’s interview with TIME Magazine, and well-known music from the Planets, this show explores what Tyson and others consider to be The Most Astounding Fact.

The Most Astounding Fact

Percussionist, composer, and educator Brian Blume has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and studio percussionist, with ensembles such as the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, BluHill Percussion Duo, Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Indianapolis Colts Drumline. Brian currently serves as Assistant Professor of Percussion at Southeastern University (Lakeland, FL), where he oversees the percussion studio, teaches music theory and history, and directs the SEU Fireline. Prior to his appointment at SEU, Brian taught percussion at Center Grove High School (Greenwood, IN), who boasts one of the nation’s premiere high school percussion programs. As a composer, Brian has received numerous commissions and has works published by Tapspace Publications, PercMaster Publications, and drop6 media.
