I played close to 3 hours of my own originals & Endangered artists’ tracks. The trip started on a forward-moving tone with some of my classic work, then it fused to a bigger room sound reflecting my label’s current mood. The night ended on a groovier note playing a few of my latest works yet to be released. Past, present, and future. Hope you enjoy the trip as much as I did.

This set was recorded in July 2024, during my last show at Do Not Sit On The Furniture, Miami's favorite South Beach nightclub and a venue that has been home to me for so many years. It's a personal favorite. It's sound system and intimate setting allows you to dive deep into musical journeys.  

I want to honor this venue by sharing with you this very special mix, filled with a lot of my latest groovy creations, including my latest release 'Aladanza'. For the past year I've been tapping back to my roots incorporating vocals and getting heavier with the percussive grooves, creating my own signature swing. 

I am dedicating this mix to Behrouz and the whole DNS crew who have always shown me tons of love for my music. Enjoy!

Smooth and professional production is the name of Brian’s game and this EP is another testament to his growth as an artist.  Very hypnotic rhythms on Blue Dawn and a Middle Eastern motif lies throughout the track.  Rolling baselines, tight production, and a very wide feel gives this record sustainability in clubland.  Mona is a mellow pretty affair with great synthesis and sound design work. Melodies are sprinkled throughout the track in a very intelligent way and it’s a very pleasing record for both club and relaxed listening. This is the forward sound of the underground. The release begins with the title track and finds Brian carving out one of his most distinctive grooves to date. Layered beats and mystical pads set the piece in motion before an underbelly of warm bass swells fully initiates the journey. Highlighted by soulful vocal stabs the first act strikes an emotive chord, foreshadowing a break of warm harmonies and cinematic tones, ultimately leading to a third act of timely drops and heart-warming rushes. It's one of Brian's most unique creations and not surprisingly it comes from a special place, as he describes "Belles Du Shaman is a musical story of pain & struggle as well as hope & light. The hard drums and synths set the tone for this deep, pulsating and melancholic EP, that drowns in a sea of sounds, touching every weak corner of my heart. When I wrote this track I had just visited the mountains of Utah, more than 10,000 feet up. In a night of music and stars I was moved by how powerful and meaningful a space in time can be. A land that provides us with water, food, shelter... it gives us life as well as meaning. Imagine losing this. How it can impact our life and culture as well as our history and being. The end result of all these feelings and realizations came out in this track."

The Lab NYC is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective's weekly afterwork party where we stream the best American and international DJs from the intimate space connected to our Brooklyn office. Mixmag welcomed Brian Cid to The Lab NYC for a deep and ethereal journey through tech house.

For those familiar with the late night and early morning atmospheres of Brooklyn’s underground party scene, Brian Cid is likely a recognizable name. Once the music engineer of choice for artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Mos Def, and Snoop Dogg, Brian then found his true calling in the realm of dance music. After garnering early support from the illustrious Nervous Records in 2012, Cid began to catch the attention of industry tastemakers Richie Hawtin, Pete Tong, Claude Vonstroke, Lee Burridge, and Mark Knight, among others. The Brooklyn native and Cityfox affiliate has been steadily carving out a place for himself in the hypnotic realm of dance music.

Cid currently has plans to release a mini album on his own Extinct label in December while also working on an album for his new collaborative project with Holmar Filipsson of Thugfucker called Theory Of Light. 2017 will also see Brian release an EP on microCastle releasing in February and another EP on Cityfox to follow. With much to look forward to on the horizon, he’s sure to take to The Lab NYC with plenty of new material to share.
