Tenor saxophonist Timo Lassy, one of Finland's leading jazz artists, is back with a new album release "Trio" on We Jazz Records. The album, to be released on 27 August, introduces Lassy's new combo with bassist Ville Herrala and drummer Jaska Lukkarinen – both We Jazz Records roster artists on their own right.

The new Lassy sound is tight, swinging and funky, led by the strong and riff-ready sax of the tenorman. That being said, the album's sound is not limited to that of the swinging trio. As we hear already on the first single "Orlo", Lassy's new vision also brings in some subtle electronics (played on "Orlo" by Lassy and Dalindèo frontman Valtteri Laurell Pöyhönen) and lush strings performed by Budapest Art Orchestra as arranged by Finnish artist Marzi Nyman. It's a new sound for Lassy, but one which keeps true to his no-nonsense cookin' on the tenor.

Taken from the duo's 2021 album 'Break The Wall' MF Robots' Dawn Joseph and Jan Kincaid have released another slab of dance floor soul in 'Make The Call'. A sure-fire groove that underpins a sublime vocal, 'Make The Call' is sure to be one of the festival, event and club hits of the Summer.

Now available as a digital download, 'Make The Call' also comes with an extended version and remixes from the legendary Two Soul Fusion duo of Louie Vega and Josh Milan. These remixes bring something new and special to the track with each creating a subtly different mood for the dance floor, for the radio and for the house party.

MF Robots is a songwriting, production and performing duo created by former Brand New Heavies founder Jan Kincaid and BNH vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Dawn Joseph. The pair left the Heavies in 2014 to record their own compositions and have been wowing audiences and record buyers with their effortless blending of Soul, RnB, Funk, Disco and Jazz ever since.

Louie Vega is one half of the House music dons Masters at Work and Josh Milan is a Grammy nominated vocalist, musician and composer who also collaborate in Vega's collective 'Elements of Life'. With both at the forefront of production, composition and remixing for more than three decades, the House, Boogie and Instrumental versions they have produced for 'Make The Call' are off the scale here.

Atjazz AKA Martin Iveson is a prolific remixer who has reworked tracks for Nitin Sawhney, Bob Sinclair, Jazzanova and even Henry Mancini (the Pink Panther theme) as well as working with vocalists of the stature of Robert Owens and Clara Hill. As Martin states, 'Remixing helps hone your sound and allows the producer to print their trademark into another space.' Well he certainly has done this here with his distinctive remix of 'The Love It Takes.'.

This new cut from Daymé Arocena - a re-imagining of Peven Everett's dancefloor shaker 'Stuck' - comes from her new One Takes EP. The EP finds Daymé Arocena bouncing around ideas with label boss Gilles Peterson & co-producer Simbad to put her unique spin on five different covers. Re-imagining cuts ranging from Italian obscurities to US house heroes, the sessions (as you might guess from the title) were about taking down whichever ideas came first. Working in a tradition of covers that's long been ingrained in jazz as well as Latin music, One Takes finds them taking that approach and running with it.

It's a perfect vehicle for Daymé to bridge musical worlds in a way that's always come naturally. With an upbringing split between classical training, early jazz greats like Billie Holiday and the spiritual and musical foundations of the Santería religion, she's grown up seeing the bigger picture.

The strange "Parallel Lean/Home is Where the Hatred Is" features gorgeous singing by Jackson and an almost incoherent rap by Heron.... The rap is added for texture and atmosphere, but it's Jackson's singing that takes the earlier tune and transforms it into a soulful, sophisticated paean of regret and resolve; it's full of soul and sophistication.  ~ Thom Jurek
