This song is one of my favorites from one of my favorite artists. Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner are incredible musicians and I have the utmost respect and admiration for them. Hopefully, I did them justice.

Yesterday I was reminded by a guy who calls himself Ian__Curtis__ (!) on Twitter that March 9th is the 14th anniversary of my second album, Two Way Monologue. As such, it is hard for me to fathom exactly where time goes after it passes. But my songs and records are a helpful tool to remind me of special times, places and people, and I’m honored to find they can play a similar role in parts of other people’s lives as well. Two Way Monologue was a very important piece of work to me. I felt I had everything to prove, mostly to myself. It feels good to be a wiz kid for a while - until you realize now you have to try to outdo that kid for the rest of your life. Yet, I felt strangely invincible. That I could have the world, if I felt like it. Also, it was the year my worst acne finally started disappearing. Things were looking up. I was both the most humble, level-headed little man, and the most delusional, big-headed little boy. It’s so easy to take a moment in time for granted, and not enjoy it thoroughly, cause you think it’s yours to keep. It’s what kids do. Luckily for me, music is forever. I’ve always felt I should’ve cut two songs off this album, but I still haven’t been able to decide which ones. I recorded sooo much stuff for it. And last minute I wrote On The Tower and Track You Down, and added Wet Ground, which was just a home recording - and it felt like the whole record changed - for the better. I left a lot of cool stuff off the album, simply because I had yet to learn how to finish or fully commit to and inhabit my boldest ambitions. I sometimes made things very difficult for myself. Then again, I still wish I’d spent more time on the lyrics for the Counter Spark chorus. And that we’d just gone with the original demo for It’s Too Late, in stead of the one we ended up with. And I regret not finding room for the song Hoisting The Flag. But overall it’s a pretty good record to me. I’m happy it’s out there, and if it meant something to you, I’m honored to be in your life because of it.

Eleanor Rigby Pokemon Battle Theme

Hey there -- my annual (9th? 10th?) holiday present to you simply had to be "thank u, next" this year. A lot of people guessed it already -- I hadn't really decided between "No tears left to cry" or this one when I sat down with my guitar the night before last to feel out the vibes. I loved them both the moment I heard them, but the explicit message of gratitude and acceptance in "thank u, next" swiftly inspired me to reimagine the lyrics to fit my own experiences - and for once, I felt this would need to happen in Norwegian (mostly).

All of this was recorded, mixed and mastered by Matias Tellez in Bergen, Norway between the hours of 11am and 8pm on December 22, 2018 - I sing and play the guitar, Matias plays everything else. 

Please enjoy, stay warm and peaceful this Christmas, and beyond.
