@sionnarch Thanks for the comments! Yes, the panning was in the MIDI file. The version of Cakewalk I used was from around 1994/1995, before the digital audio features were added.

Returning Home was a 'Sudwave' piece from around late 2020, personally I consider that one to be one my weakest as it always sounded like a less punchy version of Taking Flight and Cosmic Highway. There was a breakdown section though that kind of came out of nowhere though but since then I wanted to extend that bit. 

There's an obvious reference to Prince in the left channel (formally center) with the small synth hits and the usage of the rims in the middle section. But I'd say this track is just a big homage to Billie Jean and Caribbean Queen to a degree as you'd be able to tell by just the drum beat alone and our friend, the sax has returned to take the lead once again.

A track that has been in the vault for a good while, composed this probably 3-4 years ago and only now it's actually got finished lol. I've been tinkering around with the arrangement for a while and changing bits here and there. 

A massive thanks to Carson who recorded the electrifying guitar lead for this track, which really brings out the vibe we was looking for. Also thanks to Leo for writing some additional parts to this, this was one big collab really.

This has a nod to 'Tears For Fears' in the sound but I wanted this to have that 'Lone guy driving on Route 66 with wide panning shots, in his no roof low rider as he drives to the city to do whatever 80's protagonists do' kind of vibe too. Like action movie but it's the montage part or something. Or even a chase sequence in an old anime, who knows.

In early 1995, I was working at Microsoft as an intern software engineer on the Windows 95 team, and was approached to write the music for the hidden Windows 95 Easter Egg.

This ‘Easter Egg’ was tricky to find, but once found it opened up a window with all the names of who worked on Windows 95, with my music as the theme.

The only instructions I was given was that the music should invoke images of ‘clouds’ and feel ‘floating’ and ‘peaceful’ – this is how Windows 95 was going to be marketed. Well, and that it had to play well on all sound cards at the time. For 99.9% of computers, this meant through the Adlib synthesizer emulation of the Creative Labs Sound Blaster card (or equivalent clone). In other words – no sampled instruments, no effects – just simple FM synthesis. General MIDI at it’s finest.

With that said, I really couldn’t do too much in terms of interesting instrumentation or sounds. I’ve rendered it out using a GM sound module (which is better than the Adlib synthesizer) but still doesn’t come close to the realism you’d expect from most computer music today.
