Kyoto-based dance music label NC4K's boss, Stones Taro, delivers a daring new EP in the third installment of the NC4KWAX series. Known for his dance-floor-focused beats and impeccable sound quality, Stones Taro pushes the boundaries of his sound on this release.
The EP kicks off with "Clutch," a track that immediately captivates with its addictive vocal chops and signature Stones Taro breakbeats. The up-and-down bassline provides a solid foundation, ensuring that your speakers get a workout. "Busy Lip" follows suit, with its chaotic mix of vocal samples and percussion creating a sense of euphoria. The clap on the third beat adds a challenging yet rewarding twist to the track. The third track is pure Stones Taro, featuring a ravey breakbeat sound with trance-like elements that elevate the track to new heights. Finally, Roman producer Christopher Ledger delivers a stunning remix of the fourth track, transforming it into a tech-house masterpiece with intricate arrangements and a deep, bass-driven groove.

In 2020, Phasmid released his debut single ‘Shunned’ on Gimme A Break’s We Are Viable compilation, raising funds to support Leeds-based MAP Charity. Five years on, the eclectic DJ and producer has announced that his debut physical EP will be released via GAB on March 7th 2025.

Having cut his teeth in the UK Garage and Breaks scene, Phasmid took an extended leave from the DJ circuit to refine his sound and production techniques. Hadal Zone is the culmination of Phasmid’s various musical explorations to date, showcasing the producer’s signature clean-cut and bass-led take on breakbeat, electro and trance fusion.

On the A-side, the title track kickstarts the EP with a clinical electro breakbeat workout. While rooted in the production style of contemporaries such as Aloka and Client 03, Phasmid pays homage to the UK dance lineage, sampling Baraka’s 1995 Jungle single ‘I’ll Be There’. ‘Fractal’ and ‘Onyx’ push the project forward with two experiments in percussive UK bass, with a four-by-four surprise in the latter. The B-side opens with the devious Cyberpunk-inspired ‘Neuralware’, which combines ruthless subs with colliding synth intermissions. Cited as one of Phasmid’s earliest inspirations, Kessler delivers a breathtaking remix of ‘Hadal Zone’, complete with flanged breaks and a devastating bassline.

Knuckle weaves a playful tale of intrigue, love and energy with his 4 Ukg inspired tracks. Beginning the release with the heartfelt & catchy 'Come Thru' the contagious piano melody leaves you wanting more. Bringing up the intensity with 'Far' the vocal chops and Craig David strings keep us engaged with another ukg bop. 'What To Do' has us jumping out of our seats with cheeky bassline, punchy rhythm and more skillful vocal chops, this track is sure to heat any dance floor. Rounding off the release 'Idler' offers us a nostalgic bassline, tasteful key stabs & syncopated rythms to leave us wishing the Ep was longer!
