BlindSquare is primarily an orientation tool. It uses Foursquare and OpenStreetMap to give you information about your environment when outdoors, or Bluetooth beacons if they have been installed to help you navigate indoors. As the primary focus is providing information about the environment, it is best paired with another GPS app such as Google or Apple Maps which can provide turn-by-turn directions that supplement the information. The app is very powerful and customizable, allowing you to choose exactly how much information you would like to receive as well as how that information is conveyed.

Google Lookout is very similar to Seeing AI for iOS. The app allows someone who is blind or visually impaired to use the camera on an Android device to get information about the world. The app currently supports 5 modes. These are food labels, text, document, explore, and currency.

StepByStep is an app designed to evaluate and facilitate sequencing skills. It was designed by an occupational therapist and can be used with both adults and children. It is appropriate for users of all ages with impaired or developing cognitive skills.

Attainment's Social Success is a wonderful social-skills training tool to help adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum prepare for social independence. This app provides interactive tutorials on five topics that are relevant to daily living: at school, with friends, important skills, using technology and at work. Each of these topics explores key subtopics, such as asking for help, appropriate text messaging, safety at home, etc.

RightHear is a free navigation tool for users with visual impairments. It helps users easily orient themselves in all environments by providing information about their environment when outdoors and indoors (where Bluetooth beacons are installed).

VoiceDream Scanner is an iOS app that can take pictures and perform Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on those images. After doing this, the text can be read, discarded, or saved. This app comes from the same developer who made the fantastic VoiceDream Reader. While it is not necessary to own Reader to use Scanner, they work extremely well together. You can even scan directly from Reader using Scanner.
