I propose a mix composed mainly of unpublished tracks, for which I arranged some live elements using both hardware and software. In the end, it turned out to be quite a pleasant performance in the minimal dub techno / dub techno styles. You will find lots of deep, groovy beats here. some ambient spaces there and yeah, dub dimensions everywhere.

Rafalski - Dubbing&Clubbing (liveset 03022024)

Well, it's really like that, by surprise, that the second release of the year arrives! On Valentine's Day, Diogo brings us a warm and sweet song, composed in January 2019 with Swilaw. The original track is mainly a House tune with a well-chopped think break and vocal extracts reminding us of Salsoul. A slower than usual track, which ended up being orphaned and which, in 2024, will finally see the light of day.

Completing the release comes a remix by Mário Vinagre, aka Moreno Ácido, which takes one of those soulful vocals, and rebuilds the track, giving it a more melancholic and nostalgic tone. In between, some saxophone solos accentuates the taciturn mood that seems to recall a possible loss. If the original theme is sunny and passionate, this will certainly be its lunar side.

A bitter/sweet treat capable of pleasing everyone, depending on their mood on the occasion.

'Basement Philosophy', the long-awaited debut album from Glasgow’s legendary Domenic Cappello, is out Friday 2nd March on Alien Communications.

Domenic started making music under his Hutton Drive alias over 20 years ago, releasing on Soma Records and through his own label, Seven Sign Recordings. More recently, his productions have featured on Sub Club’s Nautilus Rising, Verdant Recordings and Alien Communications.

Cappello’s very own Subculture sound is present throughout 'Basement Philosophy', in which he travels through varying sonic textures and moods, to create something which is captivating and potent in equal measure. Introductory track 'Mushroom Waltz' eases the listener in through a combination of dreamy pads and upbeat chords, before 'Midnight with T' moves into more soulful territory with a New York-inspired cut which is both moody and spacious. 'Early Flight' manages to build a cerebral atmosphere, whilst possessing the snapping drums which are so characteristic of what you can expect to hear from Dom in full flow. 

'Acid Rain' carries an air of nostalgia around it, as Cappello turns to a vocal sample from friend and house music luminary Kerri Chandler’s seminal house anthem 'Rain', utilising the lyrics in a way which perfectly complements the gradual progression of the track towards a powerful, acid-tinged crescendo. This rising intensity is also present on '3am Jamaica Street', a throbbing, peak-time belter which would no-doubt be best listened to through Sub Club’s pulsating sound system. A different type of atmosphere is created on 'Moon Jump,' where languid melodies allow to create a track which does justice to the inspiration of the more house-orientated work of classic Underground Resistance. 

'Basement Philosophy' rounds off with two more electro-inspired euphonies, which signifies why Domenic Cappello and Alien Communications are such an appropriate pairing. 'Burning Past’ is a blissful, floating number whereas 'Not for Instagram DJs' is an aptly-named way to conclude the album, with a driving, floor-focused beat providing a fitting and dynamic finale. Imagine Marty Bonds meets Glenn Underground.

Angelo D'onorio est un DJ et producteur néerlandais d'origine italienne. Son style est décrit comme de la tech house et de la techno mélodique avec une touche funky avant-gardiste. 

Dj-ing depuis 1991 et producteur depuis 1994, Angelo est considéré comme l'un des pionniers de la scène techno d'Amsterdam. 
Travaillant dans les années 90 en tant que résident pour It, Mazzo, Paradiso, Awakenings et Welkom to the future et des spots réguliers chez Chemistry et Roxy, il a reçu de nombreux prix en tant que DJ préféré aux Golden Gnome Awards. 

La musique d'Angelo est apparue sur Metrohm, Bakroom, Manual, 90watts, Traum Schalplatten, Music Man, Bosh, Carbon, Mazzo, Circoloco et Fabric London. 
Angelo est un véritable mordu des machines à musique et construit ses morceaux principalement autour de ses sessions analogiques et modulaires.

The label has been founded by David Duriez who is known for making House and proper underground electronic music since the beginning of the 90's - 30 years in the music industry, founder and keeper of the [briquerouge] label, home of the best french electronic renegades since 1999, David Duriez is lurking in the shadow of the french Electronic scene, keeping it real and true. Artist in various styles of music, dj and innovator, he's always in search of new ways to distribute and value Electronic Music and always a step ahead. Definitely not just one for the hype.

Since 1994, David released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, outputs mainly vinyl on the most renowned labels like 2020Vision, Ovum, Systematic, Pokerflat, F Communication, Mobilee, Under the Counter, Stickman, Classic Music Company, Crosstown Rebels, The End, etc .. (the list is long, see Discogs.com to be convinced) and as many remixes for some of the greatest (think Moby, DJ Hell, Telex, Random Factor, Johnny Fiasco, Paul Johnson, Kenny Hawkes or Mr.C).

Founder of the label Brique Rouge in 1999 and a whole galaxy of other labels, he participated in the creation of internationally recognized labels such as Robsoul, Freak n'Chic or Rz Muzik. David has carved out his own niche with his pigeonhole defying Brique Rouge label, and his helping to redefine the nations underground music. Brique Rouge has released deep house, jacking house, tech-house, acid house, vocal anthems and much more... Definitely a label for open-minded people, not stuck in one genre of House. 

In a time where two thirds of the tracks being released each week are sounding the same, either a click and paste formula track, a midi template used ad nauseum or just a classic being sampled to death, Duriez still think there's hope for House & Techno and focus to keep it true, groovy, creative, with soul.
