After Jimmy Batt setting the bar very high with his “Retrospection” LP, OPIA Records invite two modern day innovators of dance floor energy to create their eleventh release. Taking up a side each on the record we have Rakya’s Idris Bena, and Slowlife affiliate, Paolo Mosca - a combination you never realised you needed. 

Bena kicks things off with his elastic grooves and futuristic melodies in “Miss K”, constantly evolving, a certain signature of his sought after sound in recent times. “Blood Moon” is another playful journey that leads you towards “Home”, a pacey and animated encounter. 

On the flip, Italian maestro, Paolo Mosca makes his mark with his precise and well executed productions. From a DJs point of view “Different Places” is a statement track, to catch the party in the moment, beautifully arranged with deep strings and a vibrant organ line. “Orion Trance” steers the ship in a different direction, melding together rubbery acid bass and euphoric synths. 

Two producers in their element, sitting strong on the evergreen OPIA imprint this summer.

Fata Morgana originally meant two things. First, a complex and mystical form of mirage that can be seen right above the horizon of the sea. Second, a magical and powerful enchantress from the mythology. Now, it will have a third definition: a stunning EP from @idris-bena.

You’ve known Idris for his delicate breakbeat touch and harmonious house narratives - now is the time to discover his dance music repertoire. A1 ‘Danceteria’ is a statement in that regard, a joyful banger that fulfills perfectly its purpose (make you move) while maintaining finesse and surprise. 

A2 ‘Bird Tales’ pursues that goal further and drives you hypnotically towards B-Side. This is where Fata Morgana reaches its full complexity. B1 ‘Soft Things’ is a hybrid work: mysterious, hardly describable, crafted for dancers yet radiating softness and melancholia. 

No time to rest though, because B2 ‘Devotion’ is right around the corner. A muscular, generous houssy track, aesthetically closer to the 90s, showing how well Idris moves from one era to another. 

Fata Morgana is almost over as you softly dive into a musical bathtub... B3 ‘Now I Float’ - And we let that title have the final word.

The label has been founded by David Duriez who is known for making House and proper underground electronic music since the beginning of the 90's - 30 years in the music industry, founder and keeper of the [briquerouge] label, home of the best french electronic renegades since 1999, David Duriez is lurking in the shadow of the french Electronic scene, keeping it real and true. Artist in various styles of music, dj and innovator, he's always in search of new ways to distribute and value Electronic Music and always a step ahead. Definitely not just one for the hype.

Since 1994, David released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, outputs mainly vinyl on the most renowned labels like 2020Vision, Ovum, Systematic, Pokerflat, F Communication, Mobilee, Under the Counter, Stickman, Classic Music Company, Crosstown Rebels, The End, etc .. (the list is long, see Discogs.com to be convinced) and as many remixes for some of the greatest (think Moby, DJ Hell, Telex, Random Factor, Johnny Fiasco, Paul Johnson, Kenny Hawkes or Mr.C).

Founder of the label Brique Rouge in 1999 and a whole galaxy of other labels, he participated in the creation of internationally recognized labels such as Robsoul, Freak n'Chic or Rz Muzik. David has carved out his own niche with his pigeonhole defying Brique Rouge label, and his helping to redefine the nations underground music. Brique Rouge has released deep house, jacking house, tech-house, acid house, vocal anthems and much more... Definitely a label for open-minded people, not stuck in one genre of House. 

In a time where two thirds of the tracks being released each week are sounding the same, either a click and paste formula track, a midi template used ad nauseum or just a classic being sampled to death, Duriez still think there's hope for House & Techno and focus to keep it true, groovy, creative, with soul.
