Donatella (Drew Stevens Remix)

For the first time ever (courtesy of Peter Wallevik who allowed me to share it online), here’s the early demo of Get Outta My Way, dating back to a few months before Kylie Minogue got the song on her Aphrodite album and Parlophone hired Stuart Price to executively produce the whole record.

The demo, as you can clearly hear, starts out with a totally different intro and doesn’t feature the piano riff, played by Peter Wallevik, that has always been part of the original stems and got finally used by Stuart Price as a new overture for the song. 
Also, the demo includes a spoken line (´Don’t ever forget what keeps a woman around´) that’s missing on Kylie’s final take and gets repeated in the short middle breakdown, eventually scrapped, preceding the bridge (´No, I ain’t going home ’coz I wanna stay´ and so on).
Despite featuring the same music elements Price finalized Kylie’s cut with, the early demo mixing sounds louder and more synth driven than the album version. 

As many Kylie fans already know, Get Outta My Way (originally penned with no specific female popstar in mind) was being simultaneously shopped around to several record companies and had quite a few contenders at the time (Jive Records expressed particular interest in getting the song for Britney Spears, and so did the likes of Little Boots, Alexandra Burke and Pixie Lott), but Kylie turned out to be the one winning the fight and placing the track on her then upcoming record, mainly due to the outrageously late updates coming from the other labels and their slow timings. 

Vocals on the demo are provided by a session singer named Alexandra Segal and part of them (the captivating vocalizations accompanying the intro/outro, for instance) ended up being kept on Kylie’s take as well. 

A Kylie sung version of this early demo DOES exist and was recorded with Peter, Cutfather and the other writers/producers in February 2010, prior to Stuart Price involvement.
