The German instrumental duo SANKT OTTEN (Stephan Otten, Oliver Klemm), founded in 1999, has been releasing music on Denovali Records since 2009. Their 10th full length album called MÄNNERFREUNDSCHAFTEN UND METAPHYSIK (eng: Male Friendships and Metaphysics) is once again a collaboration record - this time with fellow countryman and experimental guitarist N (Hellmut Neidhardt). The eight pieces on the album are based on freely improvised studio sessions and have all been recorded live, with a few overdubs added by SANKT OTTEN later.

SANKT OTTEN's Denovali labelmate N - for whom this album is release nr. 47 - is well-known for Noise, Ambient and Drone sounds standing apart from classical song writing. The aim of this collaboration was to combine the perspectives of the genres of both partners, with N adding a grave and menacing mood to SANKT OTTEN's Electronica and Kraut Rock and SANKT OTTEN providing the sound walls of N with an unusual dynamics.

The albums starts off with with the guitar drone track EIGENTLICH IST ALLES SCHÖN (eng: Actually Everything is Beautiful), in which the unusual style-clash already clearly manifests itself; the opener literally cuts through the ears of the listener. One of the highlights of the albums, the subsequent 13-minute monster MASSIERE DIE MASCHINE (eng: Massage the Machine), offers salvation. The powerful, but always minimal drumming and the sequencer bass of Stephan Otten constantly drive the track forward and lead to an intricated E-bow battle between Oliver Klemm and N, with their melodic lines closing in on each other.

A further highlight of the album is HEILE WELT (eng: Ideal World), a track reminiscent of the hymnal atmosphere of BRIAN ENO, if only this beauty was not burst open by the feedback-guitar of N. A piece immersed in its own orchestral slowness, with a harmonic twist into the unknown ...

The album closes with the noisy and at the same time meditative ambient song AM ENDE DER FAHNENSTANGE (eng: At the end of the road (fig.)). While recording this impro-drone numerous tracks have been piled up on top of Neidhardt's guitar amps and effects, including a harmonium, additional guitars, synthesizers and a prepared piano the oscillations of the strings of which have been induced by E-bows. A mellotron whispers a fragile melody from the distance and perfects the track ...

Pecas is the nom de canción of Brooklyn-via-Madrid artist, Sandy Davis. Through pecas, Davis invites us to dance slowly, even cautiously, as she mixes gentle percussion and breathy vocals into a brand of R&B that is both seductive and sinister. Playing off of the traditional tropes of “baby-making” music, it’s characteristically silky and smooth, but it’s music to do-the-dirty to with one eye open - where “Let’s Get it On” quickly becomes “You Better Run” if listening closely enough. The combination of glittering sounds and alluring vocals is a lethal one. Pecas is a gender-bending femme fatale for a new generation.

After a summer tour in 2017 with Looms, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sharif Mekawy came home to the end of a relationship. This heartbreak led to a month wherein he confined himself to a month of writing music on his roof.

Now, that time has gone on to inform Looms’ third full-length, The Way Up, out May 3rd via Good Eye Records. Joined by Harry Morris Jr. (guitar), Andy Murray (bass) and Harry Louis Cozza (drums), the ten-song album grapples with the life-consuming churn of lost love, “what ifs?” and rose-colored memories that warp over time.

Featuring a guest performance from guitar legend Nels Cline, “Eclipse” sparks to life as Looms establish a lush instrumental bedrock. Although vibrant in its full band form, "The Way Up"’s lead single goes back to Mekawy’s lonely time up on that roof as an eclipse began, forcing himself to stay up there until the song was completed.

Such is the push and pull at the heart of "The Way Up"; a heart-rending, expansively and beautifully realized full band effort born from a brutal, solitary reconciliation. Listeners who have loved and lost will find a friend in Loom’s latest effort, no matter where one is in their journey.

"The Way Up" is out May 3rd and is the fifteenth release from Good Eye Records.

By title, ‘Can’t Think Right Now’ could sum up so many mind states and situations around the world right now. By groove, it’s even more universal; warm, lucid, funky and peppered with psychedelic elements; don’t think, just act, just dance. 
‘Me Plus 1’ follows with another universal call to dancefloor action… And there’s space on the guestlist for everyone. Another rolling slab of unfettered groove, this time much darker, tribal and hypnotic, but loaded with a serious subversion midway; by the time this really kicks in you’ve lost your plus one and you won’t find them until the end of the night. 
Finally we close with a bang as ‘Revolver’ fires shots in all directions. Another warm, timeless analogue chugger, another brilliantly trippy twist midway, another example of why Dalfie keeps getting called back to Pets again and again. Tell us what you think…
