FR: Le label toulousain Ritmo Fatale (@ritmofatale) nous offre le choc des titans de l'année 2021. D'un côté Hirschmann (hirschmann-music), bordelais résident sur l'excellente Ola Radio (@ola_radio),proche de tplt (@tpltcollective) et patron de Eclipse Collective, de l'autre Mimmo (@mimmo-assi-nf) rennais et boss du beau label Nocturnal Frequencies (@nocturnal-frequencies-2016). 
Un choc des titans né grâce au confinement, propice à l'ebullition des cerveaux et des collaborations improbables et pourtant tellement évidentes. 
En résulte un split L.P sensuel qui nous prend au tripes. 
Le morceau de Mimmo que l'on a choisi de vous faire découvrir en est un bon exemple. Sombre et sensuel, on retrouve le groove langoureux qu'Hirschmann et Mimmo affectionne tant. Brutalité et soumission s'opposent à la douceur et la sensualité dans ce morceau qui fait durer le plaisir.

A clash of the titans born with the lockdown, suitable for the excitement of the brains and unlikely collaborations and yet so obvious. 
It results in a sensual L.P that gets to our guts. 
Mimmo's track that we chose is a good example. Dark and sensual, we identify the languorous groove that Hirschmann et Mimmo  love so much. Brutality and submission contrast with softness and sensuality in this track that makes our pleasure last.

Third release 003V "DMT/JASSS - MICK WILLS EDIT + CUT" that's an another dark electronic music experience, which includes new edit and cut by german musician and producer Mick Wills, known by his releases on such labels as Nation, MinimalRome, Rush Hour etc. Side A- super rare, almost unknown track by a russian industrial project DMT (Dmitry Tolmatsky/1970-2009), grabbed by Mosaique label owner Alexander Moralez from DIY audio-cassette. Thereafter it had some edits on Mick Wills studio. Side B- Mick's cut on never released track "Flexion" by Jasss (releases on Mannequin & Anunnaki Cartel). Men of the hour and part of the Endless Illusion crew from Prague joins RET with a 5 tracker ranging from Electro to wave-ish Techno. After releasing on labels like Midlight, Eidectic and more recent Brokntoys Ladislav Zensor drops another fierce and well executed joint. The ep kicks off with an extended acid injected electro track called ''All Things Are Possible''. Second track ''Transgas'' continues this threatment for the A side. The flip has a more darker perspective with flanged hi hats and eerie atmosphere. ''Defenestrace'' contains a strange vox going over the track from the beginning, it then quickly gains power by its dubbed out framework. The days of EBM and newbeat comes to mind when we hear ''Straight Folded'' which sounds like its recorded straight on a tape in the mid 80's. Last not least ''Very Fake News'' closes things of, with a driving kick-bassline and shattering snares causing pleasure on the dancefloor. Dark days are coming towards us.

After his unexpected take on pop with the UFO hit « Twist Of Men » Feat. Jeanne Added, Apollo Noir presents a second extract from his upcoming second album.
A venture into dancefloor territory under a heavy breakbeat / drum & bass influence. This could be the soundtrack of a Wipeout 2097 video game, a sci-fi chase scene, it rumbles, it crawls, it groans and explodes while providing Apollo Noir's peculiar melodic style.
A new facet of the french producer, slowly unveiling the shades of his upcoming « Chaos ID » album.

BIOGRAPHY

After growing up in the middle of the deepest French countryside (one would say in the middle of nowhere), a place called « The Black Woods » in Auvergne, Apollo Noir got into music playing drums in various Hardcore Punk and Grind bands. Hardcore is always a good way of starting music, a bit like going to the conservatory for classical musicians. During all these years being a drummer, Apollo Noir listened to a lot of music, learning, digesting, forging a solid knowledge of indie music that will help him define his future sound.
Eventually he came across a drum machine/ sequencer / synth made by Roland in the 90s called the MC909. A cheap machine used in a lot of Trance productions at that time. That was his entry point to making electronic music and how he started collecting synths obsessively.
Almost an adult, he’s ready to start his own solo project that he will call Apollo Noir as a nod to his childhood ‘Black Woods’.
His first album ‘A/N’ almost naturally comes to the ears of Tigersushi, the kind of music we love here, ambitious, emotional, challenging, genre-defying. For him this is a distortion of reality, where music and spirituality become one. Apollo’s music combines rawness, brutalism, minimalism and perfectionism in a very unique way. A few transformed voices haunt the record like a ghostly mass. There’s elements of Vangelis epic synths, Oneohtrix Point Never’s futuristic free forms or Sonic Youth dissonant noise, all made mostly from rearranged live takes recorded with a whole analog synth and drum machines set up. And yet it doesn’t sound vintage at all.
This is a trip to a distant planet, both familiar and strange, a psychedelic and distorted utopia.

No more than right that it should be this way. We must learn to accept it as a law of the natural world. The rabbits accept their role in the ritual and recognize the wolf is the strong. In defense, the rabbit becomes sly and frightened and elusive and he digs holes and hides when the wolf is about. And he endures, he goes on. He knows his place. He most certainly doesn't challenge the wolf to combat. Now, would that be wise? Would it?

After 5 years of 'Fortnightly Freebies' columns collating our favourite free downloads, we decided to do things a bit differently for the 100th chapter. Introducing 'Big Material', a 19-track 'name your price' compilation that will donate 100% of profits made to Stonewall Housing, a London-based charity supporting some of the most marginalised and vulnerable in our society.

At a time when unfair austerity is increasing inequality and leaving so many behind, we hope to support a community that has given so much to the 'scene' and music we love. Digi-dub abstractions and drifting ambient to kaleidoscopic breaks and newly-coined genre, 'subtle donk', it's a pretty accurate microcosm of the If-Only curation as a whole.
