Welcome to yet another edition of our hypnotic series

For this one we're glad to introduce a great music selector, DOC, who honoured us with a deep full vinyl selection.

DOC's selections are conceived as a psychedelic adventure, taking ingredients of techno, ambient, dub, and anything thats fits into his concept of deep and hypnotic. 
His monthly podcast "Selene Series", out each full moon, is a good taste of what his sound has to offer. As a producer he journeys the depths of modular sounds from his studio in Amsterdam.

Lovely vibing atmospheres, introspective melodies and clean blends are to be expected from this trippy selection, in which the artist displays his curation skills and a great trance evolution through out the mix.

"As the first festival of my summer, I found there immediatly the warmth I missed all year. "This mix is inspired by life on a microscopic scale. I drew from two different topics I have been reading about over the past year or two, the first being moss & lichen, and the second being quantum physics. Robin Wall Kimerer’s writing on moss introduces the reader to a tiny world teeming with life beyond our vision, and Carlo Rovelli’s writing on quantum physics attempts to help us understand the minute & strange fabric from which reality is theoretically woven. 

The word subtle can be read as describing something delicately complex & understated, as well as something arranged in an ingenious & elaborate way. Thus, the plane of subtle form paints an image of the intricate realm of the minutiae. Moving through rainforests of moss and gorges of bark, the mix traverses this infinitesimal yet vast expanse. Becoming gradually more abstract towards its centre, things break down completely at a moment of quantum instability, a leap between one state and the next. We emerge into a new place in an instant and continue forth into the strange & unpredictable beauty of our natural world." 

Bio: Born in London & having lived in Bristol, James Laing aka Night Garden draws from the sounds of those two cities, alongside musical knowledge gained during his classical compositional training. With releases on Melifera, Bahn, Indefinite Pitch & Breatice M's hybrid Dubstep label, Bait, Night Garden aims to create richly psychedelic & hypnotic pieces which combine modern sound design with classical theoretical concepts. 

Night Garden is a musical project embodying an imagined space between our conscious reality & the land of dreams. It is a liminal point in space & time; a home to drifting forms & sounds unknown. Suspended in a twilight haze, its nebulous inhabitants float into distant obscurities, shedding ephemeral traces from their transient skin.

#36 - Night Garden - Plane of subtle form

Our first guest tonight is Phrasal, a Berlin-based DJ and resident of the Hush event series. While he’s known to both Croatian and Berlin audiences for his faster, more energetic techno sets, Phrasal has another musical side that hasn’t been shared publicly until now - one that perfectly aligns with our show’s concept. I know this because for the past few years, he’s been one of those friends who would send or play me the music that has the very emotion that led to this show. We share origins in the same city, and in 2023 we worked together in D59B Berlin - it felt natural that he should be the one to open this new chapter with us.
