The 26th edition of our DECENNIUM series comes courtesy of local mastermind; Stormfield. 

London based @stormfield is widely known for founding the reputable Electronica label; @combatrecordings in 2004. A formidable outfit in the London underground scene, with their distinguishable brand of fierce, bass heavy, glitchy electronics, Stormfield and Combat have had a long list of accomplishments since their inception. Their roster of artists includes some of the most elite artists in the world of IDM and Electronica such as Somatic Responses, Mick Harris (Scorn / Fret), Anodyne & more. Combat tracks have gained support from the likes of Surgeon and Rob Hall (Autechre) and have had consistent plays on established radio channels such as BBC Radio 1.

Stormfield started DJing in 1995, beginning his journey with Ambient and Electronica, then spending many years playing Jungle, before emerging with half-step and Electro, all the while avoiding typical 'four-to-the-floor' tracks. He has held radio residences on various stations such as Breaks FM, Sub FM, ill FM, Proton Radio, etc. and has done an array of bespoke DJ mixes for the likes of Electronic Explorations, Fabric (Houndstooth label mix), Boiler Room (Nothing New podcast series & Rob Booth’s Electronic Explorations), Rinse FM (Combat label showcase), Darkfloor, Subsekt blog, Null & Void, etc. 

As well as DJing, Stormfield performs live glitchy break-driven acid using a mixture of laptop and hardware, in a constantly changing setup. As a producer he has released on respected labels such as Section 27, Opal Tapes, Jarring Effects, etc. as well as his own Combat imprint. He has also remixed for the likes of Fret (Mick Harris), Mitoma & Weldroid and Killdren. Keep your eye out for his new double EP on the way this springtime, on Combat.

Stormfield is equally at home in the world of visuals, and has regularly performed live visuals for the likes of Mick Harris (Scorn / Fret), African Head Charge, UKAEA, Somatic Responses, Metalogue, Broken Note, Brainwash Glastonbury, Anodyne, Grave Miasma, Splice Festival London, Bangface Weekender, Katharsis festival (Amsterdam)and Crux (London).

His exclusive DECENNIUM mix is a snapshot of tunes currently in his head, typically taking broken, asymmetric audio fragments and piecing them into a strange yet cohesive whole. It bounces between moments of peak aggression to deep void to melancholic euphoria with tracks bass heavy, deeply syncopated, nodding at Acid, Autechre, Scorn and Jungle along the way.

Gamelan and capoeira in dub. The collective behind this doesn’t like to talk much but their music is beautifully conversational. De Leon is the most organic and percussive of their shifting identities, developed on their Aught project in small-run, clear-shell cassette tape releases over the last few years.

They've appreciated a cult interest for their takes on outernational rhythm, field recording, and the tension and relief on the knife-edge of dance music; all delivered with an impressive commitment to anonymity and clarity of vision through cut-and-dried aesthetic minimalism.

These six pieces of music seem formed from wood, metal, air. Dramatic, balletic flourishes and tightly woven interlocking patterns are embedded in slowly changing and "live" atmospheres. The shadow of a hand over the mixing desk makes gradual adjustments to alter the pressure and dimension of the space.

A number of tracks first appeared on De Leon's set for Blowing Up The Workshop in February 2016.

Diptera takes a near electro-acoustic approach to the DNA, texture and pressure of UK Garage with a debut release on Mana comprised of four tracks. Obsessively written over four years and teeming with material detail.

The duo's musical collaboration operates like a relay. Initial tracks made by Activist DJ — short sharp affairs focused on swung drums and darkside — are passed on to Wesley to be broken apart, tinkered with, and slowly refigured into more anxious and impressionistic musical forms, etched with intricacies and mixed fidelity. The result is a distinctive and resourceful excavation of hardcore at its most agile.

A fly on the wall may face some adversity, so if you imagine a human hand in basic swatting motion, maybe you will also couple the image with an evasive manoeuvre of some sort; usually there is a moment of hesitation where the human is unsure whether their aim was true. "Did I catch it?"

Suspended in time and space, a mega-city of 9 million human-beings converge on the edge of a new age.

This project is a collaborative work of academic investigation, photography and sound design. It was undertaken in September 2019 - March 2020 by Jose Macabra (Sound Design), Yis Kid (Photography) and Lupus (Words).

A systematic process was followed in which areas of interest were highlighted for their polarising economic, social and cultural make-up.

Research on the shifting landscape in these regions was undertaken via the use of academic publications, online journalism, newspaper articles and interviews.

Tekno Thug (Makes me dizzy21)

Brood is the sound worship duo formed by Jose Macabra and Sammie Joplin (Mothax). 
Brood started its journey when they met at London College of Communication whilst both were studying B.A. Sound Arts and Design. 
It is a noise/industrial music project that explores the subconscious and hypnotic trance state in sound form. Hypnagogic exploration draws themes from innate contradiction within the worlds society expressed through a mix of soundscapes and improvised sonics. The band started in 2008 when they decided to unite forces to create a collaborative improvisation group that would generate a new concept in music and performing arts, mixing old and new techniques to deliver a melodramatic and aggressive journey that would immerse the public in an unforgettable experience.
Their first single “Filth Me Tonite” and first album “Your Mother” are now available.
