WNUR is a non-commercial, listener-supported radio station broadcasting at a frequency of 89.3 MHz FM and a power of 7200 watts. The WNUR studios are located in Louis Hall, on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and the station produces a signal that can be heard by nearly 3 million potential listeners throughout Chicagoland. WNUR also streams on the Web to listeners around the world at http://www.wnur.org. 

Through its programming, WNUR strives to provide a forum for underrepresented music and ideas. By pursuing the cultural, intellectual, and artistic aspects of radio, WNUR promotes musicians, musical genres, news, public affairs issues, and athletic events often overlooked by major media outlets. Additionally, because it is completely independent of commercial pressures, WNUR has the opportunity to provide unique and challenging programming to the Northwestern, Evanston, and Chicago communities no matter how unpopular or controversial.

PAST DJ HISTORY:

Started at the age of 5 but In the late 80’s, Malik became a household name in Chicago’s nightclubs with Me Entertainment, LB Production & Midcoast Entertainment due to his reputation for making any crowd move. Shabazz locked down Chicago’s nightspots with his diverse range of music from House, Top 40 Pop, Old School, Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae, Latin and Punjabi music. Now, DJ Malik Shabazz is a member of the BET Awards Voting Academy, globally known in the DJ community as a member of CORE DJs where he travels around the world performing at nightclubs, celebrity private parties, concerts, comedy tours and colleges, determined to cultivate and maintain his title as one of the world's hottest DJs.

In 1984, Malik landed his first Mix-Show spot on WKKC 89.3 FM in Chicago and provided mixes every Friday night for four years. After his four-year stretch at WKKC, Shabazz provided mixes for WCRX 88.1 FM, WHPK 88.5 FM in Chicago as well as WIUS 88.3 FM in Macomb, IL., WIIT 88.9 FM Chicago, WDBM 88.9FM East Lansing, MI, KBMS 1480AM in Portland, Oregon, KYIZ 1620AM in Seattle, KBOL 100.1FM in Waterloo, Iowa, WESE 92.5 FM in Mississippi, WCCG 104.5 FM Fayetteville, NC, WRWN-Reewine Online Radio Orlando, FL, Champion Sound Radio Online Chicago, 107.3 VIP Online Radio Chicago, Sirius Satellite Radio Shade 45/XM 66, SWURVRadio.com and also released several mix tapes: 60 Minutes of Heat, Street America, Caribbean Café, Afternoon Traffic Jam Mixshow Series and now Mixshow Dj for WSRB Soul 106.3 FM & Power 92 Chicago

Malik has been touring with HBO Def Jam Comedians for Midcoast Entertainment’s “Laff Jam”, in which comedians Steve Harvey, Cedrick “The Entertainer”, Rickey Smiley, Corey Holcomb, Sheryl Underwood, Bernie Mac, D. L. Hugley, Mike Epps, Dee Ray Davis, Earthquake, Damon Willams, Alex Thomas & Michael Collier headlined. DJ Malik Shabazz’s sensational skills landed him “The Official DJ of former L.A. Clippers Corey Maggette” now retired and their analyst & Hollywood Celebrity Promoter Jimmie Maggette where they have hosted several celebrity private events. He has also been a DJ for other celebrity parties including: Derrick Rose, Lebron James, Jay Z, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny  "The Jet" Smith, D'Wayne Wade, Charles "Peanut" Tillman, Lance Briggs, Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush, Russell Simmons and many more.
