Mommy To The Sky (Ben's Song, 2022 ) - 1st Movement

This is another one I wrote for my old bluegrass band, Cornbread. I'm playing mandolin and singing lead, the brothers Jon and Matt Check are on the guitar and banjo, respectively, Doug Fitzsimmons is on the snare drum and vocals, and Brad Barron rounds us out on bass. Matt is still playing music, too, and you can find his stuff on BandCamp and Spotify. He's a really talented multi instrumentalist, as well, and is playing mostly guitar these days. I wrote this song when I was in love, if that isn't apparent, and it's all true.

It's always an honor to have Debra Buesking ask if she could join me on a previously released song.  My answer goes along the lines of; "well duh, of course":) What a delight she makes of my tribute to the semi-annual time change, in this case "falling back" from Daylight Savings Time.  It also corresponds with southerly migrations of species from birds to butterflies.  We're staying put, however, with snow shovels and ice scrapers at the ready:) Hear more of Debbie's wonderful music @debra_buesking.

These towering tendrils of cosmic dust and gas sit at the heart of M16, or the Eagle Nebula. The aptly named Pillars of Creation, featured in this stunning Hubble image, are part of an active star-forming region within the nebula and hide newborn stars in their wispy columns.

Although this is not Hubble’s first image of this iconic feature of the Eagle Nebula, it is the most detailed. The blue colors in the image represent oxygen, red is sulfur, and green represents both nitrogen and hydrogen. The pillars are bathed in the scorching ultraviolet light from a cluster of young stars located just outside the frame. The winds from these stars are slowly eroding the towers of gas and dust.

Stretching roughly 4 to 5 light-years, the Pillars of Creation are a fascinating but relatively small feature of the entire Eagle Nebula, which spans 70 by 55 light-years. The nebula, discovered in 1745 by the Swiss astronomer Jean-Philippe Loys de Chéseaux, is located 7,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Serpens.

There’s a whole lot of talking going on beneath the waves.  A new study suggests that sound communication in fish goes back at least 155 million years. Although fish have developed hearing similar to other vertebrates, the way they make sounds to communicate to other fish is distinctive. Many fish use swim bladder vibrations to make noise or may vibrate other muscles or parts of the body, while others can snap their tendons, move their jaws, or otherwise rub skeletal parts to produce sounds.  What are the fish talking about? Fish are either trying to attract a mate, defend a food source or territory, or let others know where they are. Even some of the common names for fish are based on the sounds they make, such as grunts, croakers, hog fish, squeaking catfish and trumpeters.

Bruce Klepper is a Colorado based composer. Klepper writes music in a number of different styles, including contemporary classical music, jazz, soundscapes using field recordings, ambient music, and ballet music.  Klepper has been composing music for Danse Etoile Ballet (www.danseetoile.org) since 2016. Klepper has been collaborating with Parlando School of Musical Arts (www.parlando.org) faculty Britta De Groot and Sergei Govorov, composing and arranging new music for the dynamic piano and saxophone duo to premier around the United States. Klepper's music premiered in Carnegie Hall, September 2022.  Klepper's music can be heard on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and SoundCloud. 

Klepper studied music composition in the 1970's and received a degree in music composition and theory.  After writing music for many years and starting a tech company based in Colorado, Klepper retired in 2014 from business so he could devote myself to his true passion, composing music.
