Can’t we all just get along?  Can’t we have our differences without hating each other? Aren’t we all just neighbors, coworkers, & fellow Americans?  Yes, yes, and yes.  But can we achieve societal harmony when one side’s non-stop tactic is to label its chief political opponent a Hitlerian dictator, employing a years-long attempt to keep the fear & hatred of the man at a fever pitch, while demeaning & dehumanizing him as well as his supporters? And this, after spending months using our justice system trying to put him in jail?  Should we be surprised if it ends in tragedy?

We’ve got a real mess in this country. In a span of 17 days, a revealing debate & a near-miss have turned an already tense environment topsy-turvy. The vitriolic rhetoric won’t end soon, but at least the “lawfare” appears to have fizzled for now, disappointing those who had been giddy that the early legal victories might actually put the dreaded Le Bete Orange in prison.  Should the giddy ones have known what was to come?

For this one, I rounded up my fantasy band, the Famous Texas Men Of Note, to perform at the imaginary Seven Sisters Dance Hall, just west of Austin in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.  The crowd wasn’t huge that night, but it was plenty raucous.  Needless to say, we brought the house down.  We always do.

Giddy like the varmints, chewing on the hated target,

The fear they just can’t kill,

Now they’ve booked Le Bete Orange,
Slam the gavel, bring the charge,
Hey, the law may be applied unequally,
But it’s the only way to save democracy.

I beg you Lovely Lady, turn your head away,
Away from the shame, away from the pain,
America, America, how did we let it get this far?

Ah but giddy doesn’t last, when the vengeance & the wrath,
Shred the piers that bear the load,
No it won’t be so hysterical, when even Heaven’s miracle,
Can’t keep our father’s code, 

Oh but decision day is nigh, & the beast is still alive,
And far too many still believe…..

So arrest the Monster!...show it on TV,
Silence him & anyone who won’t concede,
There’s no time for constitutionality,
When the mission is to save democracy.

关云长　Guan Yun Chang（？～２２０）

Guan Yun Chang was a Chinese figure from about 1,800 years ago.

He is a popular figure in the Records of the Three Kingdoms, and for some reason is now worshipped as a god of commerce.

He remained loyal to Liu Bei, the founder of Shu Han, and was admired by many of his contemporaries, including Cao Cao, for his extraordinary bravery and sense of duty.

Among the military commanders appearing in "Epic of the Three Kingdoms," he was as popular as Zhuge Liang, and because he valued righteousness, later generations deified him and designated him as the Guan Di (Guan Emperor).

He is worshiped as the god of business in Chinatowns around the world. He is given special treatment in "Epic of the Three Kingdoms" and is described as Kwan Gong rather than Guan Yu.
