Melbourne-based artist Maxine Gillon has made a name for herself with her accomplished songwriting that showcases both her literate & abstract lyricism as well as her hypnotic & lush production arrangements. Across both vivacious pop songs and ethereal ballads, her inimitable sound draws from indie pop, shoegaze, western twang & power pop elements.

Welding otherworldly guitar lines to snotty, sludge-punk rhythms, The Bear Hunt’s loose, textured sound stretches from jagged landscapes of pure distortion to urgent, soaring choruses; replete with poppy grandeur.  The Brisbane-based four-piece effortlessly embody the adventurous chaos of alternative rock’s earliest explorations – where deafening noise rubs shoulders with aching pop and the wild, risky allegiance is ready to fall apart at any second.

Bruise Pristine delivers moody grunge rock stories of mental illness, disaffection and political apathy. Founded by vocalist and guitarist Kate Olivia in 2016, the band delivers 90s alternative rock-inspired stompers addressing empowerment, diversity, political cynicism and queerness.

Bruise Pristine has been making an impact on the Sydney live music scene delivering intense live performances and sharing the stage with FLOSSY​, Baker’s Eddy​, Cry Club​, The Buoys​, Horror My Friend​ and most recently supporting UK’s ​Crywank​ on their farewell tour.

They released their debut EP Not Like You in 2017, and the first single ‘20mg’ received rotation on community radio stations including 2SER​, Triple R and 4ZZZ​, and was selected by FBi Radio​'s director Amelia Jenner for the station's new music playlist. ‘20mg’ and the EP title track ‘Not Like You’ also received rotation on Triple J Unearthed and overseas on California’s ​DKFM​.

Out of the atmosphere of political malaise and apathy, movements like #MeToo, the threat of the far-right, and political instability came 2018’s single ‘​The Way It Is’​. An admission of despair and anger, it is a commentary and a critique of power structures, gender rigidity and queerness. Following up the power of ‘The Way It Is’ comes the new single ‘Tired Eyes’​, a song about the dissonance that comes with having lots of ideas and ambitions but too little time or energy to see them through. ‘Tired Eyes’ will be dropping Thursday, 30th of January.

Since bursting through the gates of the music industry in 2016 with their seminal album debut Stay In, Do Nothing, the defining sound of Adelaide’s Horror My Friend has become unmistakable. A sound that was solidified in their 2018 follow up of Home Life, which opened a multitude of doors for Josh Battersby, Tom Gordon & Sam Kolesnik, who then further exceeding their own high standards on 2019 crowd-favourite singles ‘Dopamine Waster’ and ‘Turned Loose’.

The three-piece have honed their sound over the years to remain firmly in the present. Known for blending the spirit of alternative rock and shoegaze, drenching themselves in noise and fuzz all whilst bordering on erupting into chaos. They successfully reinvent a sound reminiscent of 90’s pioneers such as Sonic Youth & My Bloody Valentine yet remaining agile through modern influences such as Die! Die! Die! and Floating Points. This constant exploration of genre allows the band to consistently break new ground and remain firmly in control of their unique, yet evocative sound. 

Horror My Friend have toured nationally and internationally with Hockey Dad and DZ Deathrays. As well as Gyroscope, The Cribs (UK), Die! Die! Die! (NZ) and Pity Sex (USA), among others, whilst locally supporting Violent Soho, Cold Chisel, Swervedriver (UK) and more. All alongside tours of the UK/Europe and Canada, including dates at Groezrock and The Great Escape.

Back at home, the band have performed at festivals such as Groovin’ The Moo, Yours & Owls and BIGSOUND, whilst garnering strong radio and media support nationally and internationally, most notably taking out the coveted spot of a high rotation add to triple j with ‘Turned Loose’.

Horror My Friend’s new single ‘Devotion’ is born from heavy reverb and a near two-year break in releases, time in which the band took to gain influence from their surroundings both musically and socially. The track provides the first look into what’s to come, experimenting with their sound like never-before; stepping outside the usual recipe for rock music and incorporating cyclical and hypnotic elements akin to electronic music.
