Channelling his own explorations in search of the soul inside the machine, VRIL draws from the deep well of his live performances to present his third LP for Delsin, Animist. Inside lie 12 pieces which seem to probe at the unknowable distance between tangible consciousness and the astral plane, imbuing even the most seemingly synthetic of materials with a living essence. Given his illustrious back catalogue, it’s no surprise to hear VRIL conjure explicitly electronic music with such loaded emotional impact and seemingly organic animus, but in the process he also toys with the idea of how far the technology’s spiritual potential can reach.

This composition makes part of an exceptional album 'KYUB: This War' - the culmination of the British-Ukrainian music residency conducted by the Institute of Sound (UA) and IKLECTIK (UK) for talented musicians based in Ukraine under the banner of KYUB - Innovative Sonic Culture. 
I created this track in December 2022. That was the hardest winter for my country when Russia were committing energy terror in Ukraine, hitting critical infrastructure and leaving the population without electricity. In such reality, generators became Ukrainians' new «power buddies».

There is no single instrument in this track. All the sounds are made out of 4 recordings of generators’ humming. The narrative of the track is complemented by the headlines of the articles containing the word "generator", which reflects the reality we lived in winter 2022-2023.

Wonderland is a whirlwind ride through dance music as heard through ABSOLUTE.’s ears: emotive house, hard-edged techno, divine disco, and euphoric rave bring the party, while more cerebral downtempo and textural ambient tracks wind things down. It’s party music for a time without parties, all shot through with McGinley’s message of hope and equality for all.  
 
Speaking on the Mixtape, ABSOLUTE. explains: “Writing this album brought me back to life, I was writing music that helped me feel certain ways, freedom and connectedness to something I and many others were missing, longing hard to be around people, or needing a dose of raw euphoric rave energy which gave some release at the sheer desperation to dance and feel joy. Even if just for a short time, to feel transported to 90’s UK raves or New York’s underground gave me some life, and I hope it does for you too. Welcome to Wonderland…” 
 
The mixtape album came to fruition as a result of the recent lockdown where ABSOLUTE., and the rest of the world, was forced to a standstill. Anthony was determined to turn his frustration into art and participated in a creative workshop that helped open his mind to new ideas, taking his music in exciting directions. The title of the mixtape takes its name from Wonderland Arena, a now obsolete rave space in East London that played host to live performances from the likes of Frankie Knuckles, The Prodigy, and Carl Cox during the halcyon days of acid house and early rave, and that is now converted into apartments where Anthony currently lives and works. 
 
ABSOLUTE. Is a project that has steadily gained momentum over the last couple of years, deftly choosing the right path for long term success rather than quick gains. Coming from the vibrant LGBTQ+ club and rave space where he promoted influential events in London, Anthony wanted to make sure foundations were solid before making the break into the live arena with this incredible body of work. He’s DJed at a wide array of parties and festivals from Glastonbury and Creamfields to Fabric and Razzmatazz but performing live has always been the goal. As lockdown came into effect he was packing his equipment to go on the road supporting dance legends 808 State on a 10 date UK tour.  
 
Despite a total shutdown of the live sector during the pandemic, Anthony still managed to perform his debut live set for Radio 1’s virtual Ibiza weekend during the summer and has just announced a headline live show at Islington’s assembly for March next year in partnership with underground gatekeepers Percolate. 
 
Alongside his musical accomplishments, Anthony is a passionate activist for human rights and has a longstanding track record of work supporting issues including climate, race, and LGBTQ+ justice. After attending the first Extinction Rebellion action in London, McGinley wrote “Rave Against the Machine”, a track that sampled a speech by Greta Thunberg which resulted in XR later inviting him to programme the music line-up of their International Rebellion at Trafalgar Square, while at Glastonbury, he played at Greenpeace’s Rave Tree.

Mexican producer @sietecatorce treads the line of experimental club masterfully, drawing influence from Latin American styles and futuristic techno abstractions. Catorce has released on imprints such as Nostro Hood System, Naafi and Hypermedium as well as launching his own label Subreal in 2019 with collaborator Amazondotcom, on which they have released two EP’s traversing deconstructed club. His new EP ‘Temperatura’ is a masterful exploration into club hybridity.

For the A-side, opener ‘Todo’ is straight-up otherworldly techno, combining fluctuating mutant birdsong and dub tones that center around unrelenting polyrhythms, whilst ‘Derretido’ flourishes industrial clangs with deviant frequencies. The B-side spirals on full-blown psychedelia into an unpredictable space between experimental tech and bass. ‘Menos’s extraterrestrial synth-work and blurred edges sound like a stripped-down early dub hybrid. ‘Tu’ featuring collaborator Biuddha employs smoky field recordings atop a shuffling post-dubstep heartbeat and euphoric snares. Combining fractured sound design with indisputable rhythm, this release is a formidable and unique addition to the experimental club bracket.

Based in the city that never sleeps (and with his music you would never want to), Tony G has been quietly making waves in the NY underground. Co-founding Sorry Records alongside Nick Boyd, Tony’s cited as one of the few young producers in the city to be doing new things with classic house. And his latest contribution to Sorry Records continues to prove just that - his first solo release since 2019’s mission statement T.O.N.Y. EP. 

A label for housing pop dance records, the ‘Pianoman’ EP covers all ground from piano house, breakbeat joy, Florida Breaks to nineties Italo House cheese. It’s full of flavour! Completely and utterly morish, you just can't get enough. 

The nod to pop music comes through the sampling with Dua Lipa, Mark Ronson + Diplo’s ‘Electricity’ and Billy Joel ‘Piano Man’ in the titular track whilst the flip ‘Good Will Hunting’, well, samples Good Will Hunting. There’s also a mammoth four remixes thrown into the works from two of the most exciting producers in the American dance music underground - Philadelphia ballroom luminary DJ Delish (Sweat Equity, PUMPDABEAT) and Oakland rave queen Bored Lord (Club Chai, Knightwerk). 

Here we have DJ Delish’s ‘Sunday School Mix’ of ‘Pianoman’ who takes us to church with huge baptist preacher vocals and claps of a congregation at worship. It’s a big ol’ slice of house heaven.
