Just me having fun with my new MIDI breath controller from Swedish manufacturer TEControl. Every alteration in tone and timbre is manipulated by the breath controller, which is simultaneously modulating over a dozen different parameters. This is a Zebra 2 preset that will be included in the updated version of my Undertow preset library for Zebra2, which should (hopefully) be out by mid February.

Lagrange Preset - Strange Artifacts

I was in Harold Budd / Brian Eno mode this morning, so I grabbed an old Reaktor Ensemble I made a while back called "Random Molecules" and recorded five minutes of generative ambient piano -- two instances actually -- one at 60 bpm, the other at 40 bpm. The one recorded at 40 bpm was reversed and processed separately through Lagrange, a granular delay from Ursa DSP, then Lagrange's output was side-chained and processed through Eventide Blackhole. The recording at 60 bpm was also processed though both aforementioned plugins but a bit differently. Plenty of EQ all around.

My first complete work as a producer of ambient music. Ideal for the passive listener. I'm a purist when it comes to ambient music, which, in my humble opinion, should always be floating around in the background, in a vast expanse.

I started playing around with synthesizers and digital audio workstations in the early 2000's when computers were finally able to process audio on a serious level. My first DAW was a program called "Orion", which is still around actually. I thought it was the coolest thing, until I discovered FL Studio, which at the time was called "Fruity Loops". It blew the lid off what I thought was possible and opened up a whole new set of possibilities for me. Ten years later, a plethora of new innovative programs have flooded the market. It's impossible to say which program is best, but nowadays I use Ableton Live as my go-to, but FL Studio is still a terrific program.

As an instrumentalist I am a guitarist, but as a musician I am a producer of ambient music. I have no desire to show off and impress you with blazing guitar solos or razzle-dazzle you with arpeggios flying at you at 260 beats-per-minute. I want to reach you. I want to say something without saying it. I want to present you with a blank canvas and let you decide what the picture looks like, and where you fit into it. But most of all, I want to make music that I enjoy listening to. Ambient music is typically characterized by its vastness. I want to get lost in that vastness. Come get lost with me.
