BTC Studio Works:  Piano Improvisation " A Winter's Lie"

This is a piano improvisation conceived around the Walt Whitman poem "Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking"  First Stanza is attached. This piece is meant to accompany the recitation of the first stanza of the poem.

leaving his bed wander'd alone, bareheaded, barefoot,
Down from the shower'd halo,
Up from the mystic play of shadows twining and twisting as 
if they were alive,

Out from the patches of briers and blackberries, 
From the memories of the bird that chanted to me, 
From your memories sad brother, from the fitful risings and
fallings I heard,

From under that yellow half-moon late-risen and swollen as 
if with tears,
From those beginning notes of yearning and love there in 
the mist,

Mist  River Of Life

This composition is based upon an experience. 
In my youth I often hiked and camped in the Chiricahua mountains of Southern Arizona. On one of these hikes I was following a trail that was leading me to a summit of a mountain. It was a Spring day and a storm was coming up the canyon. The trail was steep and the canyon was very deep. At first I heard deep thunder, and then again closer. Then delicate rain drops fell as sheets of rain allowed me to perceive the great chasm that was before me. The sun illuminated the flowers at my feet through the turbulent clouds as raindrops diffracted the light into rainbows on the petals of the flowers. The smell of life and rain mixed with color and energy saturating my senses. I was in the presence of that which could never be named. And I was the only human there to witness this. I will never forget.

This track  represents a production workup and new arrangement of an early composition from my Waterfall album. All the tunes on that album are undergoing rewrites with 30 years of added perspective.

I brought out the bass line, recorded a new piano part and added some enigma swirls and mallet rolls... mmmm mallet rolls.
